The Obama administration is considering briefing the Supreme Court on its views about the constitutionality of California’s Proposition 8,
something advocates for marriage equality have urged the president to
do.
"I have to make sure that I'm not interjecting myself too much into
this process, particularly when we're not a party to the case," Obama
said in an interview this week, but a senior administration official
said the Department of Justice is prepared to file a "friend of the
court" brief if the president gives the go-ahead. The deadline for
filing briefs in the case is Feb. 28.
