President
Barack Obama, commemorating the 50th anniversary of a speech by
President John F. Kennedy, told a crowd in Berlin last week that
defending the rights of LGBT people is a defense of liberty for all.
"Whether it's based on race, or religion, gender or sexual orientation,
we are stronger when all our people -- no matter who they are or what
they look like -- are granted opportunity," Obama said in the shadow of
the historic Brandenburg Gate, where Kennedy during the Cold War told
Berliners that he stood with them against tyranny.
