Following Supreme Court Victories, Human Rights Campaign to Hold Press Conference with Dept. of Veterans Affairs on LGBT Healthcare Equality

The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization – will hold a press conference at the Department of Veterans Affairs on LGBT healthcare equality on Thursday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. At the press conference, HRC will release the Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) 2013, a report on U.S. hospital compliance with requirements and recommendations for unbiased, welcoming care for LGBT Americans. This year, 120 of the VA medical centers – nearly 80 percent – voluntarily participated in the HEI. An impressive 76 percent were awarded 2013 HEI Equality Leader status, a designation awarded hospitals and clinics that meet foundational criteria for equitable LGBT care.
