A report published last Wednesday in the journal Nature says that a team of researchers at Oregon Health and Science University has made significant progress toward a vaccine that removes a cousin of the HIV virus from infected monkeys.
"This latest research suggests that certain immune responses elicited by a new vaccine may also have the ability to completely remove HIV from the body," professor Louis Picker said in a statement.
