Democracy Council Announces LGBT Global Rights Initiative

The Democracy Council, a longtime leader in the international development field working to promote civil society, today announced the launch of its new LGBT Global Rights Initiative. The new initiative, the first of its kind, will work directly with LGBT activists in repressive societies, including Russia and Iran, providing resources, tools, and training to grassroots organizations.

The Democracy Council is unique in its network and approach. Rather than tell activists what to do, the Democracy Council gets on the ground, listens to activists' own priorities, and then works hand in hand to give activists the tools and resources they need.

The Council is launching the LGBT Global Rights Initiative with a benefit on December 7, 2013, in Los Angeles. Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis will be among the speakers. Additional speakers and entertainment will be announced soon.
