Denver Botanic Gardens Announces Spring Plant Sale

Denver Botanic Gardens’ annual Spring Plant Sale takes place Friday and Saturday, May 8-9, 2015, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. This is the Gardens’ largest plant sale and features more than 10 plant divisions including annuals, perennials, fruits and vegetables, container gardens, hanging baskets, aquatics and more. The 2015 sale focuses on the importance of pollinators and incorporates additional pollinator-attracting plants and a pre-designed garden layout. Admission to the sale and Gardens is free. Shoppers are encouraged to bring their own wagons.

Many of the plants are grown at the Gardens and one of the best perks of the sale is getting one-on-one tips and information from the horticulture staff. Many offerings from the Plant Select program that identifies the best plants for Colorado’s climate are also available. The Gardens’ horticulturists’ favorite gardening tools are available for purchase along with a diverse selection of containers and garden accessories at the Shop at the Gardens.

For those without a yard, a variety of container plants, including mixed succulent containers filled with bright and unique combinations, can make great additions to a patio or balcony. An assortment of hanging basket arrangements are also great for compact outdoor spaces.

The Spring Plant Sale Preview Party will take place Thursday, May 7, 4 - 8 p.m. Party attendees enjoy a leisurely shopping experience with complimentary appetizers, wine and beer. Tickets are $45 and may be purchased on the Gardens’ website. The event often sells out in advance so advance reservations are recommended. In preparation for the event, the Gardens will close at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.

Spring Plant Sale falls on National Public Gardens Day (May 8), a national day of awareness in which communities nationwide are invited to visit and learn about the important role public gardens play in promoting environmental stewardship and awareness, plant and water conservation and education.
