After leaving a lasting impression on the likes of NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and more at SXSW, TORRES (aka Mackenzie Scott) is continuing to build momentum towards the release of her sophomore album, Sprinter, with a new video for the album’s title track. Scott’s emotional grappling with her religious past is actualized through fabric snares and lava baths with lyrics that allude to the spastic barrier between institutionalized religion and personal salvation. Director Casey Pierce says, “this video is an origin story. It’s about the evolution of this earthly creature’s path through disillusionment and danger to a higher form with a broader understanding.” When watching the video for “Sprinter,” it is both audibly and visibly clear that Scott’s journey is one of heartfelt complexity.
