Commentary: Allow transgender troops to have the same protections as civilians

While transgender civilians in the federal workforce have legal protections from discrimination, those in the Armed Forces could be discharged at any time. The Pentagon still maintains strict personnel guidelines that prohibit openly transgender people from joining the military. The Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law estimates there are 15,500 transgender troops serving in uniform.
