Marcus; or The Secret of Sweet

Marcus; Or the Secret of Sweet revolves around a 16-year-old African American male’s search for meaning as he realizes he is gay and may have clairvoyant powers. Referred to as “sweet” – slang for gay – by everyone in the African American bayou town where he lives, Marcus also tries to learn more about his deceased father Elegba, who was also probably gay and who became close friends with Oshoosi when they were in prison.

The African American cast includes: actor Damion Hoover as Marcus; actor Cajardo Lindsey as old man Ogun; actress Tanisha Pyron as Marcus’ friend Shaunta; actress Jada Suzanne Dixon as Marcus’ mother Oba; and, actor Laurence Curry in the dual roles Oshoosi and Shua. The play about Marcus is part of the racially-charged trilogy, Brother/Sister Plays, by African American writer Tarell McCraney. All three plays are set in Louisiana and incorporate elements of West African mythology.

Tickets are between $18.00 and $44.00 per person, depending on seating location in the theatre. To select seating and buy tickets, click here!
