CYMI: Transgender candidate Danica Roem speaks out on Trump's military ban

In case you missed it, journalist and lifelong Manassas resident Danica Roem, who would be the first openly-transgender state legislator in the country, this week called out Donald Trump for “taking a page directly out of Delegate Bob Marshall’s discriminatory playbook” by excluding transgender people from military service.

Roem is challenging Marshall, who in 2011 introduced legislation to ban “active homosexuals” from serving in the Virginia National Guard. Marshall, who sponsored a failed “bathroom bill” even more extreme than North Carolina’s HB2, also declared support for Trump’s transgender ban.

Roem told the Washington Post, “It’s about time the people of the 13th District had a delegate who will represent them instead of singling them out, stigmatizing them and trying to make them feel awful about who they are.”
