Here are five things that you need to know about this bill:
• The $1.4 trillion in tax cuts come at the expense of your health care, education, affordable housing programs, and other public benefits.
• It eliminates medical expense tax deductions for people who pay a lot of money out of pocket for necessary and life-saving medical expenses. This tax deduction is one way that people living with HIV and transgender individuals afford medical expenses that are inadequately covered by their insurance.
• The cuts take money away from low income people and gives massive tax breaks to the country’s wealthiest few and large corporations.
• It repeals the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate, which means 13 million more people will be without insurance - the most marginalized of whom are those living with HIV, transgender Americans, and millions of others who need access to physical and mental healthcare.
• If your household makes less than $200,000 per year, you will be one of the 87 million middle and working class families who will see a tax increase, while the wealthiest get money back.
