The annual event, which took place on Saturday at Glendale Farm Open Space, brought in more than $146,000 (and counting) which will help the Dumb Friends League provide shelter, comfort, veterinary care and behavior training to more than 5,000 homeless pets at the Buddy Center this year. Fundraising for Wag `n Trail continues through Oct. 22.
In addition to the hike, participants enjoyed local food trucks and craft beer from 38 State Brewing Co., met adoptable dogs and shopped for merchandise from local vendors.
People who were unable to attend the event can still help by registering as a virtual hiker for just $25 and dedicating any hike to homeless pets through Oct. 22. Registration includes a Wag `n Trail dog bandana and the chance to enter the virtual hiker photo contest by submitting a picture from their hike to win a doggie gift basket and a $100 gift card from PetSmart. Virtual hikers are also eligible to earn fundraising incentives.
As the only animal shelter serving Douglas County, the Dumb Friends League Buddy Center plays a vital role in reuniting owners with lost pets and finding loving homes for thousands of cats, dogs and small animals each year.
