Join Betsy Schwarm for a Virtual Discussion of The Three Bs

Join Lone Tree Arts Center with  Three Bs by Betsy Schwarm on Apr 14 at 10am on Zoom. Bach – Beethoven – Brahms: three unsurpassed masters of composition, collectively known as The Three Bs. Admittedly, they aren’t the only superlative names in classical music. Nonetheless, one would be hard-pressed to generate a similarly alliterative set of names that, between them, cover virtually all the significant developments in classical music over the course of two hundred years.

In this program presented by Betsy Schwarm, former announcer/producer at the vintage KVOD radio, 99.5fm, we’ll explore how each man represents the principal musical concepts of his time, as well as how each of the later gentlemen had to deal with the legacy of the earlier ones. How did Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos pave the way for Beethoven’s concertos? How did Beethoven’s symphonies set the stage for what Brahms would eventually accomplish? In this program, we’ll give particular attention to Beethoven, whose 250th anniversary comes in 2020. However, without Bach, there might not have been a Beethoven as we know him, and without Beethoven, Brahms would likely have faced a very different musical world.
