The Lone Tree Arts Center (LTAC) is thrilled to announce the Lone Tree Commissioners’ Choice exhibit, curated by Colleen Fanning, Into the Rearview Mirror: A Look Back at 2020. The exhibit will be on display through May 23, with a virtual opening reception on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30pm.
Into the Rearview Mirror: A Look Back at 2020 examines the unparalleled events of 2020 through the responses of visual artists. Themes such as isolation, social justice, COVID-19, human connection, and hope come through in this collection of work from artists in Colorado and across the globe. This collection is made up of 52 pieces of varying mediums and the perspective of 29 artists that range from professional to emerging.
Colleen Fanning has been a guest curator, and public art consultant for the Arts Center since 2013, working with emerging, mid-career and professional artists from around the country. For this exhibition, Fanning looked for artists whose works made in 2020 were a response to the unparalleled social, political, cultural and health events happening in this country. Fanning says, “We are grateful to explore these artists’ works related to social justice, isolation, politics, and COVID-19, which helps to bring awareness of many broken systems, and outdated ways of thinking which we hope to move the needle on, even if ever so slightly.”
Artists whose works are included in the exhibit are Floyd D. Tunson, Yvens Alex Saintil, Adrienne DeLoe, Anne Clark, Ashley Sertich, Suchitra Mattai, Laura Ball, Audrey Ng, Carlene Frances, Corcoran, Edie Winograde, Francisco Souto, Gilberto Sanchez, Jeff Tidwell, Jenna A. Rice, Kelton Osborn, Kevin Sloan, Leigh Gonzales, Linda Lowry, Lisa Calzavara, Liz Hickok, Melissa Lynn, Nathan Abels, Pamela Joseph, Paul Sisson, Peter Olson, Tania Rustage, and Tom Ward, who created a collaborative work that includes artists Kristina Maldonado-Bad Hand, Lola Montejo, Jerrold Castro, John Vogl, Brandon Styles, Michael Gadlin, Ouida Touchon, Alicia Cardenas, and Ellen Moershel.
A virtual opening reception for this exhibit will be held on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:30pm. Join the exhibit's curator and moderator for the evening, Colleen Fanning, as she dives into this collection and the diverse works that fill the gallery space during this livestream opening tour. As Colleen takes you through each piece of the collection, she will share her insight into the work and why it tells such an important piece of the 2020 story. Throughout the event, we will have appearances from some of the participating artists and the opportunity to get a more in-depth picture of their work within the exhibit and how 2020 has affected them as an artist.
