As one half of a same-sex couple, Stephen Hodgkinson-Soto, author of Stinkerton McPoo Goes Exploring, says he found it difficult to find a book to read to their adopted children that represented their family - two dads and two children, one of whom is black.
It was during the first pandemic lockdown that Stephen, who works as an operations manager, decided to put pen to paper and write his own. The book, which Stephen describes as “light-hearted” is based around the family’s Labrador Fia, who is known around the house as ‘Stinkerton McPoo’ due to her gassiness. Stephen hopes to write more books to continue the LGBTQ+ and interracial family representation.
