NMAC will present the 2021 Elijah Cummings Award for Minority Health Equality to U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge and the 2021 John Lewis Good Trouble Award to Chairwoman Maxine Waters at its second annual Capitol Hill Champions event. The presentation will be held online on Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 7:00 PM ET. Registration for the Capitol Hill Champions is available at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6127358817187998476.

“We could not have chosen two more deserving recipients for our second Hill Champions recognition than Secretary Fudge and Chairwoman Waters,” said Paul Kawata, NMAC Executive Director. “Through their long careers in public service, Secretary Fudge and Chairwoman Waters have demonstrated their commitments not just to the fight against HIV/AIDS but to eliminating health care inequities based on race. They have exemplified NMAC’s mission to ‘lead with race’ and we are incredibly honored to recognize their work.”

NMAC established the awards in 2020 at the first Capitol Hill Champions event. The John Lewis Good Trouble Award, named after the late Congressman John Lewis was presented to Speaker Nancy Pelosi.  The Elijah Cummings Awards for Minority Health Equality, named after the late Congressman Elijah Cummings, was presented to Congresswoman Barbara Lee. Both awards are presented to members of Congress who have demonstrated tremendous courage in eliminating health and societal discrimination.
