George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley, the lifelong friends who formed WHAM! in 1981, became one of the most globally successful pop acts of the 1980s, selling more than thirty million records worldwide. Even several pop generations down the line, their music continues to inspire legions of new fans.

During their time as WHAM!, George and Andrew released eleven singles, and incredibly, five of them were British Number 1s, including "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Freedom," "Last Christmas," "I'm Your Man," and "The Edge Of Heaven." They also topped the charts in many other countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Holland, Italy, Ireland, South Africa, and Switzerland. "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," "Careless Whisper," and "Everything She Wants" were all chart toppers in the US, and all three came from the same album, Make It Big, which sold six million copies in America alone.

In 1985, WHAM! made history as the first Western group to perform in China. Their two concerts there were rapturously received and broke countless cultural barriers.

WHAM! was a global phenomenon, touring the world and playing to hundreds of thousands of fans. The Big Tour of 1984 and 1985 comprised thirty-nine shows in support of their multi-platinum British and American Number One album, Make It Big. They performed in the UK, Ireland, Japan, Australia, the United States, Hong Kong, and China. In the summer of 1985, their WHAMAMERICA! stadium tour played to hundreds of thousands of fans the length and breadth of the USA.

On June 28, 1986, WHAM! played their last concert, appropriately named "WHAM! The Final," in front of seventy-two thousand people at Wembley Stadium. The concert included performances by their friend Elton John and was a fitting finale for a duo that had captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world.
