The Pipettes Rocked the Walnut Room

The Pipettes rocked the house Monday night at The Walnut Room. If you've never been to The Walnut Room, check it out. It's a great little space with drinks and eats in the front and a performance area in the back. The Pipettes are from merry olde England and are just adorable. I think I have a crush on the dark-haired one. I must be turning straight but that's ok because I never had much luck with men anyways.

Annie speaks about drama at Boulder concert

from her blog at www.annielennox.com:
"... Unfortunately an incident took place towards the end of the set that really shook me up. And believe me..in the 30 years I've been performing, I'm not that easily shaken. The security at the hall were extremely lax, and Mr "Nightmare on Elm Street "( or whatever weird thing was going on in his head) should never have been allowed to get anywhere near. Trust me...it wasn't nice.
I'm usually very patient and easy going with most kinds of behaviour in an audience...but that was really freakish and disturbing, whatever the hell it was. He owes me and my band a fucking apology.
Anyhow I send my apologies to anyone who waited. What a drag. If you ask anyone who's waited for me after any of my shows, they'll tell you that I usually spend quite some time signing etc...
But you know what...Hey...I'm a human being folks..and I just needed to get out of there because I'd had it. I'm really sorry if you waited for me...normally it would have been completely different. ..."

Drama at the Annie Lennox Concert

The Annie Lennox concert at Macky Auditorium last night was incredible. She sang all her biggest Eurythmics and solo songs (she kicked things off with Why, Little Bird and Walking on Broken Glass. Her voice was pristine and she was fun, playful, and, unusual for her in concert, talkative.

The only strangeness occured about 3/4 of the way through the concert when some ass in a gasmask and head-to-toe latex came in the left door at the back of the venue and proceeded to walk all the way down to stand front and center in front of the stage.

When Annie saw him, she immediately threw her hands in the air and made a quick exit backstage. Event staff escorted the guy out and Annie came right back and continued the song without hardly missing a beat. The whole strange incident took around 30 seconds.

After the song Annie said, "I'm sorry but that freak was fucking scary!" She then apologized for her profanity. The incident seemed to hype her up, however, and she tore into the next song, tossing the mic stand across the stage and writhing around the stagefloor.

All in all, it was an amazing, amazing time. Easily one of the top five live vocal performances I've ever seen.

Punk God Henry Rollins in Denver

Henry Rollins is coming to Danver's Paramount Theatre on October 23 with what he calls, "An evening of quintessentially American opinionated editorializing and storytelling."

Rollins is known for his work with seminal punk band Black Flag as well as The Rollins Band in addition to being a spoken word artist and actor. His most recent movie, Wrong Turn 2, is out now on DVD.

According to a posting today on towleroad.com, Rollins was recently interviewed by The Cleveland Free Times where he said, "I think it's really lame what's going on with those that are gay and I'm not gay. I was raised around gay folks. I was raised in the DC area. There are a lot of gay people there. My mom had gay friends. I had gay bosses. I worked at a movie theater and got propositioned four times a weekend. It was like, 'You like boys; nah, it's not going to be me.' I never wanted to kick some guy's ass. Some guys are creeps. But when you see the kind of hatred exacted at these people who can't help how they feel about men, it's sad."

And a couple years ago he had this to say to Instinct magazine, "In some ways for you guys, being gay today is better than it was 20 years ago, and in some ways it’s worse. I think America has accepted homosexuality as a fact, but the downside is the Bush administration giving the psychotic, ignorant wing of the Christian right—who are very homophobic and very hateful—a voice. A few State of the Union addresses ago, the president said, “I defend the sanctity of marriage,” which is lip service to the Christian right, saying, “You queers are on notice.”

I love him.

I'm getting an interview with him or you will know the reason why!
