It Gets Better: President Obama


In the wake of these terrible tragedies, thousands of Americans have come together to share their stories of hope and encouragement for LGBT youth who are struggling as part of the It Gets Better Project. Their messages are simple: no matter how difficult or hopeless life may seem when you’re a young person who’s been tormented by your peers or feels like you don’t fit in: life will get better.

President Obama is committed to ending bullying, harassment and discrimination in all its forms in our schools and communities. That’s why he recorded this message.

It Gets Better: Margaret Cho


Check out Margaret Cho's addition to Dan Savage's 'It Gets Better' project aimed at supporting victims of anti-gay bullying. I interviewed Margaret during her recent visit to Denver for the Cho Dependent Tour and she remarked that the best way to deal with this kind of abuse is "to love yourself and know that you are loved." It's true.

It Gets Better: Matt Kailey

It Gets Better: Tim Gunn and Kesha


Dan Savage's video project aimed at LGBT teens suffering from bullying or harassment has been a tremendous success, with thousands of people submitting messages advising kids that life gets better as they age. Some video submissions have come from celebrities such as Kesha and reality television star Tim Gunn, who talks about his own suicide attempt.
