Love and Pride celebrates 4th anniversary

In the past four years since loveandpride.com was launched, thousands of Erase Hate pendants have been sold and 100% of the net proceeds to the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

In honor of their fourth anniversary, Love and Pride is offering an anniversary special of 20% off of their entire 1138 Collection to celebrate the recent same-sex marriage decisions in Iowa and Vermont. 1138 represents the number of federal marriage rights that the GLBT community continues to fight for – and that straight couples receive simply by saying ‘I do’.

The Matthew Shepard Foundation was founded by Dennis and Judy Shepard in memory of their 21-year old son, Matthew, who was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in Wyoming in October 1998. Created to honor Matthew in a manner that was appropriate to his dreams, beliefs and aspirations, the Foundation seeks to "Replace Hate with Understanding, Compassion & Acceptance" through its varied educational, outreach and advocacy programs and by continuing to tell Matthew's story. For more information about the Foundation and its programs, visit www.MatthewShepard.org.

"Ten years ago Sir Elton did a concert in Laramie to benefit the Foundation. It was wonderful beyond description. He is a gracious and generous human being. We are sincerely grateful for his continuing support," said Judy Shepard, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation.

The election is over - join the change

Over the last 10 years, the Matthew Shepard Foundation (MSF) has been on the front lines. They’ve fought for change, for equal protection in the workplace, and for hate crimes legislation. Now, we have a new opportunity. A new president, a new Congress. With your support, the MSF will make a difference in this new era.

MSF successfully fought for nationwide hate crimes legislation. Judy Shepard fought tirelessly for the Matthew Shepard Act and the bill passed the House and the Senate only to have her efforts thwarted. Now is the time to finally move forward. And the MSF can only do it with your help.

Over the last 10 years, the MSF has brought more than one million people a message of acceptance. Judy Shepard and the Foundation staff have spoken to university students, business executives, Congressional committees, and communities across the country emphasizing the importance of acceptance in our lives and in our society. Your continuing support guarantees that ability to spread this message.

In 2009, it will still be legal for homophobic employers in the United States of America to destroy the livelihood of hard-working gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered Americans by depriving them of employment solely due to their sexual orientation. This bigotry has no place in the coming era of American history and the Matthew Shepard Foundation continues to insist that this discrimination be erased from our nation before 2010.

Change is in the air, and with your help, the Matthew Shepard Foundation will make sure it’s the change we need. Donate today.
