Madonna's audition for 'Fame'

"The look was very unique so we were excited ... and then she read."

This comes from Kenneth in the (212), I'd forgotten what a treasure trove he is. A wonderful array of everything.

This month at The Eagle

Did somebody say Tightey-Whitey Twister?

Although, this guy has some pretty interesting theories about Agnetha ...

"Agnetha Fältskog is murdered in her home in December 1979! Her place in ABBA is instead positioned by a lookalike. Not until this year, 1999, twenty years later, the truth has been brought to light. Many of ABBA's fans still don't know that the Agnetha performing on the albums "Super Trouper" and "The Visitors" isn't really Agnetha. But I personally am sure that Agnetha Fältskog's life really came to an end in 1979. In this essay I will thotoughly (sic) go through the arguments and clues suggesting that this is the case."

Read the rest HERE if you really don't need to be working or folding laundry or organizing your comic books or otherwise putting your time to good use.

P.S. - She's not really dead, by the way, Wikipedia says so.

Thank God it wasn't Frida!

Sad news that a member of ABBA was found dead this weekend. I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be Frida. She was the best one.

I defy you not to fall in love.

Pet of the Week: Squirt

My name is Squirt, and as you can see from my photo, I'm the sweetest little Chihuahua puppy you'll ever meet! (More photos and videos of me can be found at Dogster.)

I was unlucky enough to become separated somehow from my family at a very tender age. Nearly starving, cold, lost, and almost at the end of my rope, I was lucky enough to wind up with the kind folks at MaxFund.

Puppy kindergarten is a must in connection with my adoption. I need to continue working on my manners, potty training, and crate training. I'm going through my teething and chewing phase, so I'll need to be in a crate if you have to leave me unsupervised. If you think you might be my perfect forever family, I'd love to meet you. Please contact my foster parents at tatesq@yahoo.com to arrange a meeting!

Denver documentary wins top honors at SXSW

The powerful and anticipated documentary about a nun’s murder in the Amazon, THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the 2008 South by Southwest Film Festival last week. Director Daniel Junge, Oscar-winning producer Nigel Noble, producer Henry Ansbacher, and Dorothy’s best friend and colleague Sister Becky Spires were in attendance to receive the awards. David Stang, who survived her and continues to seek justice for her death in Brazil, had left Austin earlier that day, but received the news that evening at his home in Denver.

Produced by the Just Media Fund, THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY follows the powerful real-life courtroom drama that unfolds at the trials of her killers and explores her life’s work in the Brazilian rainforest that led to that fateful day.On February 12, 2005, Sister Dorothy Stang, a 73 year-old catholic nun from Ohio, was shot six times at point blank range and left to die on a muddy Amazon road. Her murder shocked the world and exposed a sordid battle in the Brazilian rainforest.

Narrated by Martin Sheen and produced by Academy Award® winner Nigel Nobel, THEY KILLED SISTER DOROTHY weaves a tale of murder mystery and courtroom drama with surprising twists set against the larger battle for the rainforest.

Annie Lennox sings out against HIV/AIDS

In December 2006, Annie Lennox invited 23 of the world’s finest female singers to record with her on a song she had written in order to help to draw attention to the HIV/AIDS pandemic—especially in South Africa, where women and children are most seriously affected. Annie titled her song simply “Sing,” and pledged the proceeds from its sales to the Treatment Action Campaign (TAC).

This grass-roots organization was founded in Cape Town, South Africa in December 1998 to campaign for access to treatment for people with HIV/AIDS and for the reduction of HIV infections. TAC campaigns have led to the implementation of countrywide mother-to-child transmission prevention and antiretroviral treatment programs, as well as training programs on the science of HIV treatment and prevention.

In support of the effort by Annie Lennox and TAC, The Body Shop will sell and distribute a special edition of “SING” at selected UK outlets from March 10-23 – the first time that The Body Shop has ever sold music to the public. In addition, BBC Sports Relief have agreed to broadcast footage of TAC’s work, which Annie documented in September 2007 during her two-week visit to some of the most seriously affected areas of South Africa.

In the fifteen years since the release of her debut solo album, Diva, in 1992, Annie Lennox has built the most successful career of any British female artist in pop music history. She has sold over 78 million records worldwide, scored numerous Top Ten hits around the world, and earned four Grammy Awards. Annie co-wrote and performed “Into the West,” from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2004.
