The Gay Vegans: A Recipe - Stuffed Peppers

By Dan Hanley

I know. This isn't a food blog. I like to do reviews on vegan food, on restaurants and once in a while on vegan products. I have hardly ever passed along a recipe.

Last week Mike and I weren't sure what we wanted to do for dinner. I had bought green peppers at the farmer's market and thought I would finally try to make stuffed recipes. They came out so good that I just have to share my recipe.

This takes less than 15 minutes to prepare, and then the bake time. And so easy!

Recipe after the cut.

Matthew and Will: The Most Talked About Kiss In. The. History. Of. America's. Next. Top. Model.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 21: Guys and Girls cast member Matthew Smith is getting a lot of attention from the LGBTQ community for his kiss with his cast mate Will Jarden on last week's episode, ‘The Guy Who Gets a Beard Weave.’

After a tough photo shoot, the models let loose with a house party that resulted in an off-camera kiss between Will, who is gay, and Matthew, who prefers not to label his sexuality. The morning after the party, Matthew was proud of the kiss. The other models, however, were not as open-minded. “I just think that’s super gay,” Matthew’s former flame Mirjana said, with male competitor Denzel adding, “After you do it once, there’s no coming back.”

But Matthew didn’t let the negative reactions from his cast members affect his relationship with Will or his feelings about the kiss. “Kissing Will was not a sexual, passionate thing,” Matthew told the camera. “It was like—I respect you as a human being, you’re beautiful, here’s a kiss!”

Check out tonight's all-new episode The CW.

Books: Confessions of a Drag Queen Tupperware Lady

In 1996 actor Kevin Farrell moved to Hollywood and he began to work steadily. But not steadily enough. So he started doing what he needed to do to make ends meet, waiting tables, catering, the occasional office job, and selling Tupperware ... in drag!

Kevin created an outlandish, larger-than-life character named Dee W. Ieye (pronounced “eye,” get it?), a loud, sassy refugee from a trailer park in Tennessee, and she started to sell. In fact, before long, Kevin — as Dee — became Tupperware’s #1 salesperson in North America for four years running. And you can read all about it in Kevin's new book Confessions of a Drag Queen Tupperware Lady!

Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan Join Cartoon Network’s “I Speak Up” Call-to-Action Against Bullying

Recognizing bullying as a health, educational and legal issue that affects millions of kids and families each year, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan have joined Cartoon Network’s recently announced “I Speak Up” call-to-action asking one million people to upload and share “I Speak Up” mobile videos to help fight bullying. The pro-active fall campaign serves as a focal point to CARTOON NETWORK’S SPEAK UP WEEK (Sept. 29-Oct. 3), the latest phase of its award-winning “Stop Bullying: Speak Up” initiative, which leads into National Bullying Prevention Month.

Both officials have shared their personal videos at www.StopBullyingSpeakUp.com and are using the hashtag #ISpeakUp to encourage others to unite with them in supporting this important effort. The goal is to collect one million user-generated videos that unite the voices of kids, parents, educators, celebrities and government officials all saying “I Speak Up,” demonstrating that through combined efforts toward a united cause, speaking up is one of the most effective ways to help bring a bullying situation to an end.

Select videos that are uploaded to www.Stop BullyingSpeakUp.com will become part of new campaign spots to appear on Cartoon Network, its digital platforms and Boomerang throughout October. Participants are also encouraged to share their videos on their own social media platforms using #ISpeakUp to help spread the word.

“Bullying and harassment can have devastating effects on kids of all ages,” said Attorney General Eric Holder. “That’s why, alongside our partners at the Department of Education, the Justice Department is striving to reduce abusive behavior against and among students of every grade level. We’re committed to promoting safe and inclusive learning environments for all of America’s young people. And I’m proud to join Cartoon Network in calling on every student, parent, and educator to pitch in, and do their part, to speak up against bullying.”

Wag `n Trail brings together people and dogs to hike for homeless pets

Dogs and hiking. If you’re like most Coloradans, you’re a sucker for both. For the 10th year in a row, the Dumb Friends League is combining the two into one quintessentially Colorado event.

The 10th annual Dumb Friends League Wag `n Trail takes place on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 8 a.m. to noon at Glendale Farm Open Space (just a short 15-minute drive south of Denver). The event is a fundraiser to benefit the homeless pets at the League’s south location, the Buddy Center, in Castle Rock.

Wag `n Trail starts with a short and leisurely 1.6-mile hike at your own pace through scenic rolling hills, and also features dozens of vendors, demonstrations, local food trucks, music, adoptable dogs and fun for both two- and four-legged participants. Fido can also enjoy the five-acre, off-leash dog park located near the trailhead.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Kelly Tribelhorn, Buddy Center director. “It not only helps support the Buddy Center and the services we provide to the pets and people of Douglas County, it’s also a fun opportunity to get outdoors, bring Coloradans and their dogs together and support a wonderful cause.”

Registration is free, but attendees are encouraged to fundraise to receive additional event perks. Participants who raise at least $75 will receive an official Wag `n Trail event T-shirt, GoodTimes ice cream (for you and your pooch), and a commemorative family photo to take home. All the money raised at Wag `n Trail helps the Dumb Friends League provide shelter, medical care, behavior training and foster care to homeless pets in need at the Buddy Center.

As the only animal shelter serving Douglas County, the Buddy Center plays a vital role in reuniting owners with lost pets and finding loving homes for thousands of unwanted cats, dogs and small pets each year.

The 2014 Wag `n Trail is sponsored by Hill’s Science Diet®, HomeAgain, Frontline Plus and Heartgard Plus. For more information on how to register, start a team, collect pledges or earn prizes, visit ddfl.org/WNT, or call (303) 751-5772, Ext. 1378.
