Co-Editors of “MALE SEX WORK AND SOCIETY” Launch Website to Support Male Sex Workers, Educate the Media, Public, Government and Lobby for Decriminalization

Few professions are as misunderstood, disparaged and infamous as that of the oldest of professions: sex work–particularly male sex work.

Though in reality the profiles of male sex workers are nearly as varied those of their clients–encompassing a wide range of personalities, needs and lifestyles–sex workers remain the targets of myriad, centuries old, ugly culturally ingrained myths: Guys become prostitutes because they’re too dumb to get a “real job.” They do it to support a drug habit. They must be self-hating victims of sexual abuse. They have low self-esteem. They are walking petri dishes of yet uncataloged STDs.

The new website, Me, Us & Male Escorting at www.aboutmaleescorting.com aims to not only challenge these ignorant misconceptions, but to also lobby for the decriminalization of sex work through an on ongoing series of informative blogs and resources, including links to widely cited and read books and research papers published on male escorting.

The website is the result of a joint research collaboration between Professor John Scott and Professor Victor Minichiello, who together authored the groundbreaking book "Male Sex Work and Society" (Harrington Park Press, 2014).

OUT on DVD/VOD: Chemsex

Traversing an underworld of intravenous drug use and weekend-long sex parties, "Chemsex" tells the story of several men struggling to make it out of 'the scene' alive - and one health worker who has made it his mission to save them. While society looks the other way, this powerful and unflinching film uncovers a group of men battling with HIV, drug addiction and finding acceptance in a changing world.

“Chemsex holds back no punches, it is a visceral and honest look at a subculture that many are unaware of. This kind of unflinching story is synonymous with the Vice brand and Breaking Glass could not be more excited to work with them in bringing this powerful documentary to North American audiences,” says Michael Repsch, SVP of Sales & Distribution at Breaking Glass Pictures.

Breaking Glass is planning a VOD and DVD release for November 2016.

The Making Of Pet Shop Boys’ “Please”

On the newest album from synth-pop’s drollest duo, Pet Shop Boys, dryly romantic (and icily British) vocalist Neil Tennant wryly recalls a past with longtime musical partner/orchestrator Chris Lowe without wallow or recoil. “The Pop Kids,” the centerpiece cut from the blunt-synthonic Super, finds Tennant—still writing and crooning like Noel Coward in a leather bar—wringing the line, “We were young but imagined ourselves so sophisticated/Telling everyone we knew that rock was overrated,” for all the cool, collected-ness he could muster. “That’s my snapshot recollection of coming up, really” says Tennant, talking about the time that led up to 1986’s Please, the first Pet Shop Boys album, which became an unlikely platinum-plated smash across the globe ... New Ways for Coloradans to Get and Give Help With Hunger

Hunger Free America has launched new campaigns to make it easier for hungry Americans to obtain food, and for anyone to volunteer in the most effective ways to end hunger.

Nearly one in seven (13.6 percent) of Colorado State residents, and one in five (18.1 percent) of children live in households that can’t always afford enough food. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) funds a toll-free hotline to make it easier for them to access food from both private and governmental resources.

The hotline can be reached at 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-8-HAMBRE (for Spanish) from Monday through Friday (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST). Hunger Free America, formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger, has just launched a coast-to-coast outreach campaign to increase the use of the hotline. Hunger Free America is operating the hotline nationwide as part of a USDA National Hunger Clearinghouse contract.

The National Hunger Hotline staff connects callers with emergency food providers in their community, government assistance, nutritional assistance programs, and various services that promote self-sufficiency. During summer months, the hotline provides information about meal sites where children 18 years old and under can get free, nutritious meals through the USDA Summer Food Service Program.

Free summer meals are offered in all 50 states at participating schools, libraries, pools, and other local sites, funded by the federal government. In 2015, a total of 164 million meals and snacks were served to typically low-income children.

Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services Kevin Concannon highlights the importance of the hotline in the fight against hunger. “USDA’s nutrition assistance programs provide a nutrition safety net, helping to put food on the table in households across America. And the toll-free hotline is there for those in need to access this assistance, as well as help provided by private resources.”

Hunger Free America also just launched, www.hungervolunteer.org, a state-of-the art volunteer matching portal to make it easier to mobilize the unique talents and skills of each individual volunteer in order to take the biggest bite out of hunger.

Hunger Free America’s CEO Joel Berg said, “Now everyone can get – or give – help. If you’re hungry or at risk of hunger, it can be a daunting task to obtain food and benefits. The hunger hotline can immediately help connect families with food providers in their area. We are starting a national awareness campaign and want to make sure that people who need help can get it quickly and easily. We also want to make sure that all Americans can give back, by volunteering in ways that move beyond soup kitchen work to attack hunger at its root causes. ”
