More than 20,000 cats are euthanized annually in Colorado simply because there are not enough homes for them all. Unfortunately, we can't simply adopt our way out of the problem.
An unaltered female cat, tame or feral, may become pregnant as early as five months of age and bear two to three litters per year for her entire life; which for a feral cat is roughly five years.
The purpose of Divine Feline and it's clinic, The Feline Fix, is to reduce the number of unwanted and homeless cats and to promote the health and welfare of all cats, feral and tame, through the practice of providing quality and affordable spay and neuter services and the practice of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).
Bellows have released a video for "Thick Skin," the lead single from their new album, Fist & Palm. NPR, who premiered the Robert Kolodny-directed video today as a First Watch, are saying "you can see the pop blossom" in the video. Fist & Palm is available now via Double Double Whammy.
On Bellows' third full-length album, Fist & Palm, Oliver Kalb experiments with aggressive sequenced drums and electronic sounds, taking as much influence from contemporary pop as from early 2000's Pacific-Northwest lo-fi.
Bellows are currently on tour with PWR BTTM and Lisa Prank.
Named after the New York City Stonewall Inn police raid and riot of June 28, 1969, which was a turning point in the gay rights movement, the award recognizes lawyers who have considerably advanced lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the legal profession and successfully championed LGBT legal causes.
The 2017 award recipients:
Kevin Cathcart, the executive director of Lambda Legal, the nation’s oldest and largest LGBT legal organization from 1992 until his retirement in 2016, was the longest serving head of a major national LGBT nonprofit organization. He helped change the legal landscape for LGBT people with the organization’s work on three historic Supreme Court cases: Romer v. Evans, Lawrence v. Texas and Obergefell v. Hines. Under his leadership, Lambda Legal now has a docket of more than 100 cases, more than 100 staff members and offices in five U.S. cities. A graduate of Richard Stockton State College in New Jersey, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Northeastern School of Law, he was executive director of GLAD in Boston from 1984-92.
Diana K. Flynn, chief of the Appellate Section of the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, was instrumental in her office’s legal counsel project that laid the groundwork for the division’s application of current sex discrimination laws to prohibit discrimination based on gender nonconformity and gender identity. Under her direction, the Appellate Section has filed more than 2,000 briefs in federal courts and has maintained a success rate of more than 80 percent. She also managed the division’s efforts in connection with the marriage equality cases, including Obergefell v. Hines, decided by the Supreme Court in 2015. A graduate of the University of Rochester in New York and Yale Law School, Flynn is the first person of trans history to serve openly in a number of senior capacities in the federal government and the legal profession.
Tonya Parker, judge of the 116th Civil District Court in Dallas County, Texas, received national and international media attention when, after her election in 2010, she declined to officiate weddings until every couple in Texas, including gay and lesbian couples, could get married. In 2013 and 2015, she received the Dallas Bar Association’s highest ratings of any civil district judge. In 2015 Judge Parker was named Trial Judge of the Year by the Dallas chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. A graduate of the University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, Judge Parker is the first openly gay woman to be elected as county judge in Dallas and was previously a partner at two Dallas law firms.
“The American Bar Association is pleased to recognize these three gay rights pioneers. Each has been a forceful voice for LGBT inclusion and legal progress,” said Mark Johnson Roberts, chair of the ABA Commission on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.
Halloween can be a festive holiday for people, but it can be downright scary for
our furry friends. Here are a few tips from the Dumb Friends League to keep your pets safe and ensure
this Oct. 31 doesn’t turn into a nightmare for you and your critters:
Keep the Halloween treats out of reach—candy, especially chocolate, can make your pet sick
and can even be fatal.
Put your pets in a separate room away from the door during peak trick-or-treating times. This
will help reduce stress associated with constant visitors in strange costumes. It will also prevent
them from darting outside when the door is open.
Keep your pets indoors. Pets that are out at night with trick-or-treaters might get spooked by
noises and costumes, which could cause them to run away.
Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If, for any reason, your pet escapes
and becomes lost, a collar, ID tag and microchip can be lifesavers, increasing the chances that
your pet will be returned to you.
Wires and cords from decorations should be kept out of reach, as they can become dangerous if
chewed. Your pet could cut or burn himself or receive a possibly life-threatening electrical
shock.
If your pet enjoys dressing up for the holiday, here are some costume safety guidelines to prevent a
frightful night:
Don’t restrict your pet’s ability to walk and sit down comfortably.
Avoid making your pet wear a mask that covers his eyes, ears or nose.
Don’t put your pet in a costume that makes it difficult to breathe. This is especially important for
flat-nosed dogs such as bulldogs, pugs and Pekingese.
Always supervise your pet while in costume. Pieces of the costume, when chewed, can pose a
choking hazard.
Read your pet’s body language when he’s wearing a costume—if he looks miserable, he
probably is.
Alternatives to dressing up your pet could be a festive bandana or collar.

One Colorado’s Legislative Scorecard highlights the priorities of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans and their families in the 2016 legislative session. The scorecard includes accurate, nonpartisan information on bills related to LGBTQ equality and how each member of the legislature voted on issues that affect Colorado’s LGBTQ community.
During the 2016 legislative session, we saw a small number of victories for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families that were the product of successful bipartisan cooperation. However, other bills that would have dramatically improved the lives of LGBTQ people were defeated – including a ban on the harmful and discredited practice of conversion therapy and a bill to make it less burdensome for transgender Coloradans to update the gender on their birth certificates. We also saw attempts to roll back protections for LGBTQ Coloradans, in the form of religious exemption proposals, that were fortunately defeated in the Colorado House.

I am traveling alone as Mike can’t take off during the school year. I sure do miss him. This is the longest I have been without him!
Meanwhile, there is an election coming up and I have been able to speak with so many people all over the country about it. As I have written before, please remember that there are many offices aside President that will be decided on in a few weeks. So much power up for grabs, and each of us has a voice. Please vote all of the way down the ballot. No matter where you live, there is plenty of information on upcoming ballot initiatives and those running for office.

Love Is All You Need? is Romeo & Juliet set in a world where the norm is to be homosexual and heterosexuality is taboo. In a small Middle American town the star quarterback of the local university is outed for being a heterosexual. Her forbidden love affair with a male journalist rocks the town to its very core, setting off a series of catastrophic events that will forever change the community.
Love is All You Need? is based on the 19 minute short film of the same name, which was so powerful that it organically garnered over 50 million views and was self-translated by fans into more than a dozen languages, deeply touching and affecting people around the world.
The LGBT community witnessed a life-changing decade during the 70’s that was, in equal measure, wonderful and horrific as they fought for their rights and against persecution. Author Lou Kief wrote the memoir – Let No Stranger Wait Outside Your Door – to ensure history is preserved by those who lived it with his unique and insightful view of the decade from San Francisco, a city that was at the center of the transformative decade.
While San Francisco’s LGBT culture has roots dating back to the 19th century, it’s during the late sixties and seventies that the movement truly began to gain traction. Following the Stonewall riots of New York in 1969, San Francisco became a hub for the LGBT community and the gay liberation movement, with the first march that eventually evolved into the renowned San Francisco Pride being held in 1970 and the community growing throughout the decade. It was this exciting and historical time that Kief witnessed first-hand.
Kief says, “Let No Stranger Wait Outside Your Door is a book written for my younger gay brothers and lesbian sisters and for anyone who wants to understand the significance of the period and how it changed – for the better – the lives of gay men and women all over the U.S. and around the world. It shares what it was like to be gay at a time when society and often our own families, chose to deny our existence, ignored or ridiculed us.” Kief added, “My memoir is a story about a sudden, great migration of men and women, who like pioneers a century before, found themselves bound for California and San Francisco were happy, exuberant people filled with hope discovered they didn’t need anyone’s approval to live their lives in the open.”
The author urges the younger generations of the LGBT community to embrace the historical significance of the 70’s and learn about the sacrifices and events that those who preceded them endured and organized for their rights. Let No Stranger Wait Outside Your Door will help those that are not gay better understand their gay friends or family members by giving a first-hand account.

Palm Springs Pride will host a diverse group of artists including, dancers, singers, musicians, activists, and DJs gathering under the theme of Solidarity through Pride to celebrate diversity, equality, and solidarity. This year’s all-inclusive Palm Springs Pride Festival lineup will be headlined by ska legends and iconic '80s band The English Beat, Book of Love who is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a USA reunion tour. Chicago-based rock ‘n’ roll band, Jinx Titanic and the Ladykillers, queer rock band Pansy Division, and the high energy The Gand Band. The free two-day Pride Festival features all-girl Americana style rock ‘n’ roll band Ashleigh Flynn and the Riveters, East Nashville's Amelia White and the musical, and romantic duo Branden & James.
GayC/DC the world’s only all-gay tribute to AC/DC and the four-piece all female rock band from Los Angeles No Girlfriends, along with electropop band Devin Tait and the Traitors will help highlight the unique musical styles that celebrate diversity in our community. The Trans Rally on Sunday, November 6 at 1:00 p.m. will feature performances by Allison Annalora, Lindsey Deaton, and Paulina Angel.
An assortment of electronic, pop, hip hop, and rock ‘n’ roll artists will perform, including singer and guitarist Shea Freedom, Young Jibwe, an Ojibwa hip-hop artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ciscofoya, and a hot new artist on the rise Yaysh. Popular southern California singer and Rock ‘n’ roll band Tomasina round out the list of stellar performers. DJ KinkyLoop, DJ Aaron C, and DJ Waide will join over 100 artists scheduled to perform throughout the festival weekend including the DJ Baz “Cuban Nights” show. Festival Emcees include the desert’s hostess, social ambassador and Walk of Stars recipient Bella da Ball?, Pauly and Monks, Ruba Wilson, and KJ as Joan Rivers. Denver Botanic Gardens continues its annual holiday tradition of adorning the Gardens at York Street and Chatfield Farms with colorful lights to celebrate the festive season. Both locations open Thanksgiving weekend on November 25 and run through January 1, 5:30 - 9 p.m., including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day. The popular HoloSpex 3-D glasses are sold at both locations. The majority of the lights are LED, reflecting the Gardens’ commitment to conservation and sustainability.
This year’s Blossoms of Light at York Street presents a tunnel of color-changing lights, the grand illuminated O’Fallon Perennial Walk, changing color orbs and an extended pathway that illuminates even more of the Gardens than ever before.
