Lea Michele - Getaway Car

Actress and singer Lea Michele is set to release her upcoming sophomore album Places on April 28 via Columbia Records.  The 11 track album features the previously released “Love Is Alive, Anything’s Possible,”  “Run To You” and “Getaway Car.”

Following three intimate sold out shows at New York’s Appel Room and Los Angeles’ The Broad Stage and Hotel Cafe in January, Lea recently announced that she will reprise her successful Intimate Evening With shows in North America with music from her upcoming album Places. The shows will start with a limited run on May 1, 2017 where Lea will travel through North America in cities including Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Seattle, San Francisco and Canada. Tickets are available now, and every pair purchased online for includes a copy of Places.

“When it came time to name my album, I settled on ‘Places’ because this album for me represents a return to form, a return to the stage, and a return to the place I belong,” Lea says. “When you perform on Broadway the word “Places” is the last thing you hear over the loudspeaker before a show is about to begin. “Places” I thought was the perfect title for this music and how it reflects who I am as an artist today and where I come from.”

Stonewall Fitness: Do Fitness Trackers Really Improve Fitness?

By David Smith

Fitness trackers such as the FitBit and Apple Watch have become very popular no doubt, they can do everything from tracking steps, calories and heart rate to giving you an almost complete profile of your bodily processes throughout the day and night. While the technology has certainly become more advanced, it’s hardly anything new. Endurance athletes have been using heart rate monitors for years and I am sure a lot of people will remember the step counters from the mid 2000s. Yet how will your average gym goer or person looking to improve fitness benefit from all this data?

One of the basic functions of wearable fitness trackers is to track steps. After wearing it for a day or so, a lot of people are surprised at the number of steps they take, usually between 7000-10,000 steps a day. Thus the first goal someone will make is to reach a certain number of steps per day, even if that means walking laps around your living room at the end of the day to see that final number appear. The same process might happen when you track your calories burned or even your average HR (heart rate) through physical activity. Many gyms even have posters and charts for “HR Zones” that provide a point of reference for the number you might be seeing.

While all this data might be great to see, it’s important to understand what it means and how to utilize it toward improving your fitness. A wearable fitness tracker is simply a tool, nothing more. While you can accomplish the same results with or without the device; if you plan on using one, be sure you get your money’s worth!

Wear your fitness tracker for a week or so and go about your daily routine, establish a baseline of your daily physical activity. This is also a good opportunity to learn how it works, play around with the settings and get used to wearing it.

OUT in Theaters: Do You Take This Man

Breaking Glass Pictures has acquired North American rights to Joshua Tunick’s heartfelt, socially-relevant drama Do You Take This Man starring Anthony Rapp (Star Trek: Discovery, RENT, BWOY) and is planning a July limited theatrical followed by a VOD/DVD release.

Along with Rapp, Do You Take This Man also stars Jonathan Bennett (MEAN GIRLS), Alyson Hannigan (How I Met Your Mother, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, AMERICAN WEDDING), Thomas Dekker (MY SISTER’S KEEPER, KABOOM!), and Mackenzie Astin (The Magicians).

The movie focuses on an intimate group of friends and family as they gather at the home of two gay men (Anthony Rapp and Jonathan Bennett) to celebrate their nuptials. When the wedding hits a snag, this group helps the grooms to see that all marriages have their challenges, and love is just the beginning.

“The Supreme Court’s decision on marriage equality came down on the last day of filming “Do You Take This Man”, said Producer Eric Kops. “With the recent shift in the political climate, the story is as timely as ever.”

“Writer/ Director Joshua Tunick has crafted a beautiful, heartfelt romantic drama about the challenges surrounding the concept and commitment of marriage”, said Richard Ross, Co-President of Breaking Glass. “Anthony Rapp leads a talented cast in a film that will resonate with everyone who’s ever been in love.”

What is the mystery of "Scotland Road?"

As history and human obsession collide in "Scotland Road," no one is who they seem to be in this atmospheric mystery. When a young woman is discovered adrift in the north Atlantic, seemingly a survivor of the decades-old Titanic disaster, a mysterious stranger must discover if she is telling the truth or creating an elaborate fraud. Scotland Road examines the power of secrets in this psychological cat and mouse thriller.

After a brief career on stage, Jeffrey Hatcher turned his hand to writing. His many award-winning original plays have been performed on Broadway, Off-Broadway, regionally across the United States, and abroad. They include Three Viewings, Scotland Road, Korczak's Children, A Picasso, Mercy of a Storm, Work Song and Lucky Duck. Hatcher has also written the screenplay for Casanova for director Lasse Hallstrom, as well as screenplays Secretary and Boys Don't Cry directed by Kim Pierce. He is a four-time participant at the O'Neil Playwrights Conference and is a member of the Dramatists Guild, New Dramatists, The Playwrights' Center, and the Writers Guild of America.

Lowry’s Spotlight Theatre's production of “Scotland Road” previews May 5 and runs May 6 through June 3 at the John Hand Theater in Lowry with performances on Fridays, Saturdays and Monday, May 15 at 7:30.p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m.; Saturday, June 3 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 - $23 and available by calling 720-880-8727 or online at www.thisisspotlight.com.

Sigrid - Don't Kill My Vibe

Sigrid’s arrival has been extraordinary. Storming SXSW and with over 10M Global streams in just one month for a debut single, Sigrid today drops the epic video for ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’, directed by acclaimed duo J.A.C.K (Christine and The Queens). From a tiny town in Norway, Sigrid’s debut EP is set for release this May on Island Records.

Displaying remarkable song writing ability as a skilled lyricist, with hard-hitting and empowering words laced over unexpected and expansive melodies, Sigrid wrote her first song at 16-years-old and in just two weeks – when Sigrid’s older brother challenged her to write an original song and perform it at a local gig with him.

Born and raised in Ă…lesund, which sits at the entrance of a UNESCO-protected fjord surrounded by sea and mountains, it was as if Sigrid was always destined to drive the ten minutes across to the neighbouring island of Giske, and make music in the famously idyllic Ocean Sound Recordings.

Self-releasing her first song at High School and dropping a second track that was immediately playlisted on national radio, Sigrid moved to Bergen at 18 and was catapulted into the burgeoning music scene. Now signed to Island Records and currently splitting her time between Bergen and London, Sigrid has quietly been creating a world which emboldens her followers, through the power of the song.

Nice To See StevieB: Procrastinate

By StevieB

I have only three hundred more words to write on my first of three term papers. As I sat at the dining room table today, I saw the end in sight. Yet, it is a rough and tumble three hundred to still complete. There is not much more I can say on Philosophy from a Feminist perspective. So far, I’ve purchased two pair of jeans from Amazon, Googled “Pedant T-shirts/floppy gym shorts,” changed the bed linens, completed three loads of laundry, Oh…. and wrote this blog post. So sue me if it goes astray.

If I don’t complete the three hundred words, I will be forced to cancel a lunch plan I had with a very sexy boy. So…. really, I should be exploring Feminist Philosophy…..

…I really like the Levi jeans that have the longer back pockets. So, I bought some pairs. On line. Guess I see how they fit when they arrive, I am concerned for the D-bag factor. Or the "over forty year old attempting to dress like a twenty-five year old" because that could easily be the case. Welcome, one an all to StevieB's midlife crisis.

Oh, I got new Pumas. I have really stopped counting how many pairs of running shoes I own. I do know that I’m out of closet space and I now need to keep Pumas in my oven.

Alright, back to writing…. wish me luck.

Sudhanshu Saria's groundbreaking debut LOEV hits Netflix worldwide on May 1

LOEV tells the story of two friends with a complicated past - Wall Street dealmaker Jai (Shiv Pandit) and Mumbai based music producer Sahil (Dhruv Ganesh, in his final role before passing away in January 2015). The two share an emotional weekend on a road trip into the hills and canyons of Maharashtra where chances are missed, truths are evaded and an unexpected love develops.

Shot entirely on location in India, the film production was completed in secrecy due to the extreme LGBT laws in the country. Due to these censorship issues, the filmmakers are particularly excited to be launching the film globally with Netflix on May 1st, so that audiences across the world will be able to see the film in the safety and privacy of their own homes.

“I didn't think it would be possible to cast or finance a film like this,” Saria said, “So to find ourselves on the cusp of a worldwide release is truly spectacular. It speaks to Netflix’s taste and the way in which they empower filmmakers to speak out against oppressive societies and arcane censorship systems like the one we have in India.”

RuPaul Named to The Time 100

TIME named RuPaul to the 2017TIME 100, its annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world. The full list and related items appear in the May 1, 2017 issue of TIME, available on newsstands on Friday, April 21, and now at time.com/time100
RuPaul is the Emmy Award-winning host and executive producer of "RuPaul's Drag Race" now in its ninth season, airing Fridays on VH1. The iconic host, advocate, drag queen, singer, model, actor and author is a trailblazer who continues to break down barriers in a career that spans over 25 years. VH1 recently announced "RuPaul's Drag Race" will return for a milestone 10th season in 2018.

The list, now in its fourteenth year, recognizes the world’s most influential individuals. As TIME Editor-in-Chief Nancy Gibbs has said of the list in the past: “Each year our TIME 100 list lets us step back and measure the forces that move us…. One way or another they each embody a breakthrough: they broke the rules, broke the record, broke the silence, broke the boundaries to reveal what we're capable of.”
