To Do List: Vote Craig C in the Rufus Wainwright Remix Competition

The Rufus Wainwright Bitter Tears Remix Competition ends today at 5pm and Denver's own Craig C needs your votes to take the top spot and snatch that metaphorical trophy.

Says Craig C., "I subscribe to this group called indaba music and when I found out about the Rufus Wainwright remix contest I just had to do it. I usually don't have a lot of time for this kind of thing but I'm such a big Rufus fan that I forced myself to find the time."

Craig C's remix (Craig C's Master Blaster) started out in 58th place before reaching a peak of #2. He's now chilling at the #3 spot but MileHighGayGuy wants to make sure this local boy goes all the way.

Why does Crag C deserve your vote?

"Well," says Craig C, "There are a lot of good remixes in the contest but I feel that I have an exceptional connection with Rufus because I'm such a big fan of his. And the song was produced by Mark Ronson who I also have a lot of respect for. What I tried to do with this remix was capture the musicality of Wainwright and blend it with the soul of Mark Ronson for a kind of '70s groove fusion with a new club feel. The contest ends at 5pm so please vote, vote, vote! Every vote counts and I would love to win."

Click here and cast your vote today before 5pm.

Rufus Wainwright returns with Out Of The Game

Rufus Wainwright returns to the pop foray with his eagerly anticipated new album, Out of the Game, to be released May 1st on Decca.  Produced by the celebrated Mark Ronson, this is the seventh studio album from one of the most accomplished, contemporary singer-songwriters today.

A labor of love for both Wainwright and Ronson, Rufus calls Out of the Game, “the most pop album I’ve ever made,” while Ronson recently stated, “it’s the best work of my career.”  Recorded in New York in the fall of 2011, the twelve songs are hook-laden, memorably arranged tracks reminiscent of Rufus’ early work, following 2010’s more quietly intimate outing, Songs For Lulu

From the uptempo opening chords of the title track and first single, to the gospel tinged rock of ‘Jericho,’ through the beauty of ‘Sometimes You Need’ and the emotional pull of ‘Candles,’ this new disc ranks alongside Rufus Wainwright’s very best.

Musicians on the album include the Dap-Kings who Mark used for the groundbreaking Amy Winehouse Back To Black album and his own ‘Record Collection’; Wilco’s Nels Cline; Nick Zinner of Yeah Yeah Yeahs; Andrew Wyatt from Miike Snow; Sean Lennon and Martha Wainwright.

Influences, as ever, were all encompassing. Mark says Out of the Game “has a real 70’s, Laurel Canyon spirit” while Rufus cites “all the greats- Elton, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie - basically the brash and beautiful. It’s also very Rufus.”

Affectionately referred to by Elton John as "the greatest songwriter on the planet" and praised by The New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Grammy nominee Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation.  He is the son of folk singers Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle, and brother of Martha Wainwright, but Rufus has achieved his success by carving out his own singular sound in the worlds of rock, opera, theater, dance and film.

Jake Shears and Rufus Wainwright - together on the cover of NEXT

Jake's so little and cute! Jake Shears and Rufus Wainwright are currently featured on the cover of NYC's NEXT Magazine.  The pair are the subjects for photographer Tim Hailand's next two photo books in the One Day in the Life of  series, who also shot the cover for NEXT.  Both musicians provide text for their respective One Day in the Life of books, and each has a special intro: Cherry Vanilla wrote Rufus' and Elton John wrote Jake's (which also has an afterword by Kylie Minogue).  The series, which started last year with Danielle Radcliffe, gives readers an intimate glimpse into the private lives of celebrities.  A portion of proceeds go to a charity of the celeb's choice.  Books can be pre-ordered at www.onedayinthelifeof.org.

Kristian Hoffman -I Can't Go There With You

Gay artist Kristian Hoffman is the "cult legend of the cult legends", with a career featuring stints with pop-punk band Mumps (along with Lance Loud), humorous lounge-rock band The Swinging Madisons and the satiric folk band Bleaker Street Incident.

He's been the musical director for Ann Magnuson and Rufus Wainwright and has toured with El Vez and Ex-Kink Dave Davies. His new CD 'FOP' is 17 songs of lush, baroque pop with bitingly witty lyrics.

New music from Rufus Wainwright

In response to the massive praise from fans and critics alike during his acclaimed and celebrated 2007 Release The Stars Tour of which The New York Times dubbed “a tour de force”, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter, Rufus Wainwright is back with a highly anticipated new live CD/DVD 'Milwaukee at Last!!!' in stores on September 23.

'Milwaukee at Last!!!' features a 10-track CD and a DVD boasting 23 songs from the iconic singer/songwriter’s sold-out performance at the Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee, WI. Select songs from Release The Stars are the main focal point of the CD with other highlights coming from Want One, a scintillating performance of Noel Coward’s “If Love Were All” from his Rufus Does Judy show and a version of the Irish song, “Macushla”. Filmed by the legendary documentary film maker Albert Maysles, the DVD features the entire Release The Stars album as well as select tracks from Want One, Want Two and Rufus Does Judy plus backstage footage and rehearsals.

Check out the video below of my all-time favorite Rufus Wainwright song 'Oh What a World' and, as a bonus, 'Don't Forget' my all-time favorite song from his sister Martha Wainwright:

Rock to Win Press Conference Video

Margaret Cho, Rufus Wainwright, Thelma Houston, Melissa Etheridge and Cyndi Lauper meet the press on Tuesday night for HRC's DNC concert Rock to Win.

Rufus Wainwright at Rock to Win

I love him. It was great to see him live for the first time. He dedicated his set to his boyfriend. So cute. Sorry again for the dark pics, the media section was kind of far from the stage and no flashes were allowed. Photography, that is.
