DOMA win could expose some to higher taxes

If the Supreme Court strikes down a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act, some legally married same-sex couples filing joint federal tax returns could get hit with a heftier tax bill known as the "marriage penalty," depending on their income. 

"Equality is not always a net fiscal positive," said Brian Moulton, legal director at the Human Rights Campaign.
