National AIDS Memorial Grove Extends Scholarship Application Deadline For Its Young Leaders Scholarship Program

The National AIDS Memorial Grove is extending the deadline for students to apply for a scholarship as part of its Young Leaders Scholarship Program. The original application deadline of Sept. 30th has been moved to Nov. 1st to accommodate increased interest in the program this year.

The scholarship fund, sponsored by UnitedHealthcare, recognizes, supports and encourages the educational efforts of young people committed to active public service and leadership roles in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $2,500 and will be announced on World AIDS Day, Sunday, Dec. 1.

Applications will be accepted from both college-bound high-school seniors and college undergraduates no later than Nov. 1st. All applications must be accompanied by a personal statement and essay describing the applicants’ leadership goals, experiences related to HIV/AIDS and involvement in HIV/AIDS-related community service projects.

Details on how to apply, application deadlines and specific requirements to apply for a scholarship are available at www.aidsmemorial.org. Interested students can also contact Steve Sagaser at 415-765-0497 or by email at ssagaser@aidsmemorial.org. A panel of community leaders will judge the applications, which must be received by Nov. 1st to be considered. Applicants must provide proof of current academic status and HIV/AIDS-related community service.

“This is an important program designed to develop the next generation of leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS. We are extending the application process to ensure maximum participation by interested students,” said John Cunningham, executive director of the National AIDS Memorial Grove. “Thanks to the generosity of partners like UnitedHealthcare, these scholarship opportunities ensure that youth continue to honor the past by being a part of helping to build a future that is free of AIDS.”

Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for ongoing scholarship support connected to both their chosen field of study and related community work. Through the re-application and qualification process, the National AIDS Memorial Grove will have the opportunity to follow these individuals in their ongoing roles as leaders in the fight against AIDS.
