Obit: Gay former NFL player Roy Simmons dies

Roy Simmons, one of the first former players in the NFL to publicly come out, died at 57 last Thursday in New York City of pneumonia as a result of HIV-related complications. 

Simmons, who played as an offensive lineman for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, disclosed his sexuality eight years after his football career ended.
