Obit: Gay former NFL player Roy Simmons dies

Roy Simmons, one of the first former players in the NFL to publicly come out, died at 57 last Thursday in New York City of pneumonia as a result of HIV-related complications. 

Simmons, who played as an offensive lineman for the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins, disclosed his sexuality eight years after his football career ended.

Services and Celebration of the Life of Bryan McKay to be Held Nov. 15

Bryan McKay, beloved community member and inexhaustible volunteer for local LGBT organizations like Colorado AIDS Project, Element, The Center, P.A.W.S., and many others, passed away on Tuesday, November 4.

Lushus La'Rell, ICRME's Empress 40 shared the following information about his upcoming services and celebration of life, "I wanted to share what we know about Bryan's services. Most likely a memorial service will be held at MCC Church at 4:00 p.m. next Friday, Nov. 15th followed by a celebration of Bryan's life at Charlie's from 5:00-7:00 p.m. It's also Paula's spaghetti dinner/fundraiser for CGRA as well. Bryan would love that we're celebrating his life & raising money for one of his favorite charities -- CGRA. As soon as the details become final, I will let you know but wanted to get this on everyone's radar now."

Rest in Peace, Erik Rhodes

Paper Magazine is reporting that troubled young gay adult-film star Erik Rhodes is dead having passed away last night at the age of 30.

On his blog, Erik Rhodes: A Romance With Misery, he stated:

My name is James... I have worked in the adult entertainment industry for the last 7 years of my life under the name Erik Rhodes. I'm not sure how I ended up here, and I don't know how i have survived this long... all i do know is that it can a very lonely place and sometimes i need a blog to get shit off my chest. So take it or leave it... here it is.

Author of book detailing history of LGBT movement dies

Dudley Clendinen, an openly gay reporter and author who co-wrote a history of the LGBT movement, has died at age 67 after battling Lou Gherig's disease. 

His 1999 book, "Out for Good: The Struggle to Build a Gay Rights Movement in America," covered the period from the Stonewall riots of 1969 to the founding of ACT UP in 1987 and was co-written by New York Times political reporter Adam Nagourney.
