Taiwan relaxes requirements for gender change on documents

The interior minister of Taiwan announced last week that residents will soon be able to change their gender on legal documents without proof of gender reassignment surgery. 

A committee will be established to consider change requests, which will be subject to a mandatory six-month waiting period. Taiwanese LGBT advocates praised the change in policy, with one trans activist calling it "a great Christmas present."
