If you open a business, it should be open to all.
That simple premise – that business owners shouldn't get to discriminate against people simply because of who they are – is at the heart of our case at the Supreme Court in December. The ACLU's clients, Colorado couple Charlie and David, tried to buy a wedding cake, and they were refused service because they’re gay.
In any Supreme Court case, it can be hard to see how individual activists and advocates can make a difference. After all, the Justices listen to arguments from lawyers and the people on each side of a suit. But they also listen to friend-of-the-court briefs, statements of support for each side.
Right now, your senators and representatives in Congress are deciding whether to join a brief in support of Charlie and David. Will you ask your Members of Congress to join a friend-of-the-court brief and stand up for equality?
