Marking its 18th year, Aspen Shortsfest will bring audiences and international filmmakers together April 1-5, 2009 at Aspen's historic Wheeler Opera House and Crystal Theatre in Carbondale. Widely recognized as one of the world's premiere short film and video showcases featuring animation, comedy, drama, and documentary, Aspen Shortsfest will present its esteemed Oscar®-qualifying International Competition for this trend-setting art form: the short. With the proliferation of film and video content websites, the short film has enjoyed a renaissance fueled by easy access and the desire for new, unencumbered, on-demand entertainment. Aspen Film celebrates and honors this concise popular film art form in a spotlight all its own. More than 2,400 short films from around the world are currently being considered for Aspen Shortsfest's International Competition. An internationally recognized jury of filmmakers, film professionals, and film curators will award cash and prizes in a variety of categories, including Best Drama, Best Comedy, Best Documentary, and the Animated Eye Award, to name a few. The International Competition Jury will be announced mid-March.
