Bearracuda Denver: A Quickie Q&A With Matt Mikesell

The largest attended bear dance party in the United States, Bearracuda returns to Denver Friday, September 14 with the Colorado DJ debut of London's HIFI SEAN.

I had a chance to chat with Bearracuda founder Matt Mikesell about the success of Bearracuda (it's in 30 cities across the world) and Denver's the biggest and best one of them all.

Drew Wilson: Why should MHGG readers come to Bearracuda on Friday?

Matt Mikesell: Bearracuda Denver is going to be a blast this Friday as it's the kick off to HIFI SEAN's mini tour through the U.S.  After Denver, he's hitting Vancouver, San Francisco and Atlanta.

It's his first time DJ'ing in Denver and we're delighted to have one of Europe's best bear DJs on board at the party.

How do Bearracuda parties differ from city to city? What do you like most about Bearracuda Denver?

Bearracuda differs quite a bit wherever we go.  In some cites, Bearracuda is more of a bar party with a smaller dance area.  In others, Bearracuda is held in a big, beautiful nightclub with awesome lighting and sound.  The one thing that is constant is a friendly atmosphere, decent priced cover and a lot of furry faces all around. 

Denver pulls in our largest crowd in the U.S. and is always a blast!  We've had our party in 30 cities across the globe and Denver has consistantly been fun and busy.  We started a year ago in Denver and look forward to many more to come!

Why should we be excited about DJ HIFI SEAN?

From his beginnings as singer, songwriter and producer in the million disc selling band The Soup Dragons (whose worldwide hits include I'm Free and Divine Thing) Sean is flying over from London for one big night. He was voted in the top three best Djs of the year in Boyz magazine London 2010 + 2011 and over 25,000 people have subscribed to his monthly I-tunes Podcast.

GIRTH: Bearracuda Denver

This short film by Leo Herrera celebrates the big and burly bears of Bearracuda in the style of Calvin Klein's infamous perfume ads of the '80s. Bearracuda founder Matt Mikesell calls GIRTH "fancy and ridiculous" while filmmaker Herrera points out the video's almost olfactory "notes of fruit, Funyons and balls."
