I Was A Teenage Werebear, from the horror comedy anthology
Chillerama, has been selected to screen at this year’s
Festival de Cannes. Starring former adult film star,
Sean Paul Lockhart, aka Brent Corrigan,
I Was A Teenage Werebear was written and directed by Tim Sullivan (
Detroit Rock City,
2001 Maniacs, VH1’s
Scream Queens)
Set in 1962, this musical spoof follows the closeted Ricky O’Reilly (played by Sean) through his journey to sexual discovery and acceptance in a world where angst ridden kids transform into leather daddy werebears when sexually aroused.
Already a cult hit, Chillerama won the Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award for Best Independent Film 2011, as well as the Home Media Magazine Award for Best Direct to Video Feature 2011. Now the full length version of the short will be screening constantly at the 65th Annual and legendary Cannes Film Festival at the Short Film Corner throughout the event, followed by a series of midnight double bills with The Rocky Horror Picture Show all across the US.
Said Sullivan, “This project captures a new genre of cinematic creation I like to call Queer Fear. While gay themes are central to Werebear, the real story follows a journey of one’s self discovery that all can understand and relate to. What better genre to explore these themes than horror, a genre of innovation and non-conformity, a place where dangerous ideas can be expressed, radical techniques can be explored, and filmmakers outside the mainstream can still make a big cultural splash.”
