Don Campbell Images Studio and Gallery: Gay Pride in The Male Form

On Friday, June 15 the member galleries of Denver's Art District on Santa Fe will be celebrating Gay on Santa Fay. The event takes place the Friday of Denver PrideFest weekend so it's gonna be a great way to get yourself in the gay pride spirit. 

As part of Gay on Santa Fay, Don Campbell Images Studio and Gallery is hosting 'The Male Form', an exhibit of fine art male nude photography, sculpture, and drawings. The photography and sculpture are the work of award winning artist Don Campbell and the male nude drawings are the work of deceased artist Will Laughlin.

Campbell's Photography has been exhibited in galleries throughout the country including the Leslie/ Lohman Art Museum in New York City, the Kinsey Art Museum at the University of Indiana, and the Los Angles Center for Digital Art. 

His sculptures have also been exhibited throughout the country including the New Art Center in New York City, the Teal Gallery in Breckenridge, CO, Visions Gallery in Dallas, TX, and Sculpture in the Park, Loveland, CO. Campbell has won numerous awards for his photography and sculpture and some of his photographs are in the permanent collections of art museums.

SLDN to bring 30 Days of Pride initiative to Denver

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network has launched a month-long campaign, 30 Days of Pride, that will profile individuals and organizations making a difference today in the fight for full LGBT military equality. 

The campaign will feature a new profile per day throughout the month of June - LGBT Pride Month - and begins June 1 by spotlighting the plaintiffs in SLDN's landmark litigation, McLaughlin v. U.S.  The lawsuit, filed in October 2011, challenges the so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and three other federal statutes that may be interpreted to preclude the military from providing equal recognition, support, and benefits to the families of gay and lesbian service members and veterans.  

 

"The McLaughlin plaintiffs are trailblazers in the fight for full LGBT equality for all service members, veterans, and their families, and we are pleased to kickoff this Pride month celebration by highlighting their heroic fight in the courts. These couples are in long term, committed, and legally recognized marriages, and the military should not be forced to turn its back on them because the federal government refuses to recognize their marriages," said Army Veteran and SLDN Executive Director Aubrey Sarvis.  

Together, the plaintiffs represent 159 years of military service; serve in the Army, Air Force, Navy and National Guard; and as couples, have been together for a total of 79 years. To view their profiles, click here.

Denver PrideFest 2012 - June 16 & 17

Denver PrideFest 2012 will be held June 16th and 17th at Civic Center Park.

PrideFest features the CoorsLight PrideFest Parade, a Dance Stage with DJs, a Country Stage with line-dancing lessons, a Latin Stage with cultural programming, and the Main Stage with live entertainment, and plenty of celebrating both days.

The festival also features more than 250 vendor booths with arts, crafts, food and more. There's a VIP area with food and drinks for sponsors and contributors to enjoy, and there's also a family area, youth alley, and a transgender resource area.

PrideFest also provides a $25 million dollar economic impact to the City of Denver annually, as reported in a 2009 survey conducted by Birchill Enterprises.

The mission of Denver PrideFest is to create a fun, safe and empowering space to celebrate and promote the heritage and culture of the LGBT and allied community in Colorado.
