Celebrate Freedom to Marry Day in Fort Collins

Lambda Community Center will jointly host with Parents, Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) Fort Collins and the Center for Justice, Peace and the Environment, the 11th annual Celebrating Community and Families: Freedom to Marry Day 2010 on March 6 in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The rally will start at 12:30 p.m. with live music by Jill Brzezicki, a "wedding reception" with delicious wedding cake, and speakers including Blaine Harding - College of Liberal Arts instructor at CSU, Gabe Case and Lalery Mayo of Loveland, Kalabrian Lambert - Art Student at CSU, Jackie and Peg Campbell of Loveland and Estrella Lobato - Board of Directors for Lambda Community Center as emcee.

Freedom to Marry Day is a day to honor and rally support for marriage and the full diversity of our families -- regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The event is celebrated in many cities nation-wide.

Freedom to Marry Day 2009 - 7 Conversations in 7 Days

People across the country are beginning to take the pledge to have 7 Conversations in 7 Days to celebrate Freedom to Marry Week this year, February 8-14, 2009. With the tremendous surge of energy in support of marriage equality since the November elections, this year’s Freedom to Marry Week is expected to be the most celebrated and successful yet.

“Every year for the past 11 years, right around President Lincoln's Birthday and Valentine's Day, the country celebrates Freedom to Marry Week as an opportunity to have a national conversation about why marriage equality matters to everyone," said Evan Wolfson, executive director of Freedom to Marry and author of Why Marriage Matters: America, Equality and Gay People's Right to Marry. “This year’s theme, 7 Conversations in 7 Days, promotes the single most important action everyone can take towards achieving marriage equality nationwide—having conversations with friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and anyone who will listen.”

Freedom to Marry will promote the following 7 different ways to have conversations during Freedom to Marry Week, February 8-14, 2009:

1) YouTube Challenge (Sun., Feb. 8)—Submit a video to our YouTube Challenge for a chance to win cash prizes.

2) Make Your Voice Heard (Mon., Feb. 9)—Add your face and voice to the conversation. Create a blog post, vlog, comment on our blog, change your status on facebook, or change your picture on social networks.

3) Email for Equality (Tues., Feb. 10)—Sign the marriage resolution and email it to friends. Support your state’s equality organization and sign and circulate their petitions too!

4) Button Up for Equality (Wed., Feb. 11)—Sign up to receive a button to wear or put our html button on your website, blog, or social networking page.

5) Face to Face to Equality (Thurs., Feb. 12)—Have a face to face conversation by attending or hosting an event. Tell us about any events happening during the week, and we’ll post them.

6) Txt 4 Equality (Fri., Feb. 13)—Receive a text or tweet about why marriage matters and forward on to friends.

7) Get Local With It (Sat., Feb. 14)—Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper.
