Today is National Gay-Straight Alliance Day!

From Keri Smith, Safe Schools Coordinator, One Colorado Education Fund:

Today, LGBT and allied students, adults, and organizations across the country will be celebrating National Gay-Straight Alliance Day. GSA Day is a time to recognize and honor student-led groups that work to educate their peers and put an end to homophobia, transphobia, and violence in our schools.

Here in Colorado, we are proud to say we have over 180 GSAs in our statewide network -- making ours the 4th largest in the nation! In an effort to take action on GSA Day, we are having a registration drive and GSA story-sharing contest. Click here to get involved!
We want to shine a light on the incredible work being done by GSAs and LGBT students across our state. That's why at the Colorado GSA Network, we have created a digital campaign to identify and update existing GSAs -- as well as a friendly competition for students to share why they feel their GSA is the best.

Want to join the fun? Get started by registering your school’s GSA here, updating your information, or passing this email on to those who may be interested!

Recent studies have shown that the presence of an active GSA significantly reduces the occurrence of bullying, harassment, use of homophobic language, and LGBT youth isolation in schools and colleges. GSA Day is an important opportunity for students, supportive community members, and organizations to take initiative and let LGBT students know they are supported.

Click here to learn more about our event and participate in local activities for the Colorado GSA Network and GSA Day celebration. We also want to help spread the word by sharing this event via Facebook and Twitter -- so please be sure to use the hashtags #COGSA and #GSADAY!
Let’s take action and make our voices heard by celebrating National GSA Day -- Colorado style!

One Colorado names Brad Clark executive director

One Colorado, a statewide LGBT organization behind the recent One Colorado Education Fund GLBT Survey, announced that it has hired Brad Clark (above) as its first executive director. Clark previously helmed Iowa's efforts to secure marriage equality after the state's Supreme Court overturned a ban on marriage for same-sex couples. The group's board members said Clark was chosen for his ability to reach out to other communities to build support for LGBT equality.
