2010 Sundance Film Festival: cineGLAAD

cineGLAAD held a series of panels at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival to raise awareness about films with LGBT content and elevate the voices of filmmakers, all towards the goal of bringing these important LGBT stories to wider audiences.

cineGLAAD congratulates the LGBT filmmakers and films with LGBT content that received honors at this year’s Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals. cineGLAAD worked to build visibility for films by LGBT filmmakers or featuring LGBT content which were shown at the Park City film festivals.

More info after the jump.

LGBT filmmakers from films such as '8: The Mormon Proposition', 'Contracorriente (Undertow)', 'Howl, William S. Burroughs: A Man Within', and 'Sweet, Sampled and LeftOva' participated in the panel discussions hosted by cineGLAAD at the Sundance Filmmaker Lodge. Many media industry professionals and top-tier press attended and reported on the panels and films involved. Clips from a panel on the film 8 as well as LGBT Mormons and allies featured in the film were also shown on Salt Lake City’s Channel 5 evening nightly news broadcast.

“From documentaries like 8 which highlighted Mormon families embracing their gay and transgender neighbors to stories of LGBT people across the world such as Contracorriente, the images seen in Park City this year will inspire and change perceptions,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “We are hopeful that our work in raising visibility for these and other films will bring more inclusive images to broader audiences.”

The program’s comprehensive listing of more than 20 films by LGBT filmmakers, in addition to all Sundance films featuring LGBT content shown at the Park City film festivals is available at www.glaad.org/cineglaad/films.

Sundance cineGLAAD schedule announced

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization has announced its panels, events and programs for cineGLAAD, a program presented by Abreva and Bud Light, which will take place during the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
Through these panels, cineGLAAD will raise awareness about films with LGBT content and elevate the voices of filmmakers, all towards the goal of bringing these important LGBT stories to wider audiences.

cineGLAAD has released a comprehensive listing of the more than 25 films with LGBT content or created by an LGBT filmmaker that will be screened during the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and Slamdance Film Festival.

“Our presence at this major industry event will help amplify the stories of LGBT people that spark dialogue and raise awareness, support and understanding of our lives,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “With networking opportunities and educational panels, we hope that these filmmakers and their stories will bring their works from Park City to the world - and give film audiences a window into the common ground we all share."

cineGLAAD at Sundance

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has partnered with the Sundance Institute for a multi-day programmatic event, cineGLAAD, presented by Bud Light and Abreva, which will take place during the 2010 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

“LGBT inclusive films and LGBT filmmakers play important roles in bringing images to our culture that educate people about our lives and the diversity of our community” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “cineGLAAD will work to bring these stories to Americans by amplifying the voices of LGBT filmmakers and films with LGBT images at this integral film industry event.”

cineGLAAD will be part of the LGBT presence at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Recognizing the importance of advocating for LGBT images at this major industry event, GLAAD with the help of volunteers and staff, including the founder of Queer Lounge, Ellen Huang, will organize and host panels addressing LGBT issues in film and produce some of the signature elements of the Queer Lounge, including a guide to festival films in Park City by LGBT filmmakers or that include LGBT content.

cineGLAAD will act as a forum to the public and press, creating awareness of LGBT films and filmmakers and a central meeting place for LGBT and LGBT-inclusive professionals to make lasting professional connections.
'
Previous panels have included Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor (cast, 'I Love Your Phillip Morris'), Christine Vachon (producer, 'Boys Don’t Cry'), Rob Epstein (Oscar-winning director, 'The Times of Harvey Milk'), Lee Daniels and Gabby Sidibe (Director and cast of the acclaimed, 'Precious: Based on the Novel, Push by Sapphire').

Sundance movie I missed: 'Humpday'

I don't know how I missed hearing about this one during Sundance this year but the straight-guys-turn-gay-for-pay film 'Humpday' looks pretty good.

Sundance Film Festival in trouble?

Maybe it's not the economic downturn. Maybe it's the Prop. 8-related gay boycott of Utah.
