Kyle Hollingsworth Storms the Front Range

It’s a new year with exciting possibilities - don’t miss what the Kyle Hollingsworth Band has in store!

Hal Holbrook is back in 'Mark Twain Tonight'

Academy Award nominee Hal Holbrook’s MARK TWAIN TONIGHT! will return to Denver’s Buell Theatre for one night only, Saturday, March 1 at 7pm. Nominated for an Academy Award earlier today for his performance in Into the Wild, Holbrook is one of the preeminent stage, television and film actors working today, with his one-man show MARK TWAIN TONIGHT! regarded as one of the most acclaimed and enduring performances in the history of theatre. Tickets for the one night only engagement go on sale on Sunday, February 3rd at 10am.

As Denver audiences know well, no one can embody Mark Twain like Hal Holbrook. A man in his late 20s when he first performed Twain at a tiny off-Broadway theatre in 1959, Holbrook – now nearly 83 – knows Mark Twain as well as he knows himself, bringing a richness to the character far beyond the quoting of Twain’s most memorable quips. Each year, Holbrook edits and changes his piece to resonate with the current state of the world and chooses the evening’s program from a collected twelve hours of material.

Single tickets start at just $25. To charge by phone, call Denver Center Ticket Services at 303.893.4100. TTY (for deaf and hard-of-hearing patrons): 303.893.9582. The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs (DOCA) seeks enthusiastic, innovative and civic-minded leaders to participate on the new Create Denver Advisory Committee (CDAC), an outgrowth of the Mayor’s Task Force on Creative Spaces. The purpose of CDAC is three-fold:

2. Expand Create Denver outreach efforts in Denver’s creative community.
3. Raise the profile and impact of Create Denver activities.

“Create Denver has been a successful initiative of the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs largely because of its partnerships with other City agencies and community organizations,” said Ginger White, DOCA Senior Economic Development Specialist. “Through this new committee, we seek to broaden our partnerships and expand our reach into Denver’s creative community so as to continue on a fruitful path.”

Pet of the Week: James

Good-natured and sweet doesn’t even begin to describe how incredible I am. I was brought to MaxFund completely blind. I am now regaining some of my sight through the assistance of all the great vets here! Through it all, I have remained steadfast, true, gentle, kind, and very affectionate.

There is not a mean or irritable bone in my sweet and chunky body. I’m the most loving boy you’ll ever care to meet, and well-mannered beyond compare.

Update! I'm now ready for adoption or foster!! My eyes are MUCH better and I can see quite clearly. Come down and ask to meet me. I stay with my good friend Paulette in the back office. (She shares her lunch with me almost every day. Bologna and Cheese sandwiches.. Mmm, mmmm!!)

For more information visit Maxfund.

Denver Dog Parks: Doggone Good Times

I've been lucky enough to have a lot of free time on my hands lately and one of my new favorite activities has been taking my dogs, Pax and Charlie, for jolly romps in Denver's off-leash dog parks. Our favorite by far is Barnum Park, a big beautiful grassy area which, up until now, has been one of Denver's best-kept secrets.

Denver's off-leash dog park areas are located in the following parks:

Berkeley Park - Sheridan and West 46th

Barnum Park - Hooker and West 5th

Jason Street - 678 South Jason Street (operated by Denver's Municipal Animal Shelter)

Kennedy Park - Hampden and South Dayton

Fuller Park - Franklin and East 29th

Green Valley Ranch East Park - Jebel and East 45th

Stapleton - East 24th Avenue & Syracuse Street

All visitors must adhere to posted rules and regulations. Bag dispensers are provided at each park, and visitors are expected to clean-up after their pooches.

And the winner of Mr. Gay 2008 is ...

... Mr. Argentina
