Tranifesto: Ten Things You CAN Say to a Trans Person

By Matt Kailey

One of the most popular items on my blog is “Ten Things Not to Say to a Trans Person.” But I’m sure that non-trans people get tired of hearing what they can’t say. So, in the spirit of helpfulness, I present “Ten Things You CAN Say to a Trans Person”:

1. Good morning!

2. How was your weekend?

3. That outfit/shirt/tie looks great on you.

4. I am so tired of this heat/cold. I hope it rains/warms up pretty soon.

5. Have you seen the latest photo of my kid/dog/new house? Check it out!

6. Where are you from originally? Have you lived in this city long?

7. The traffic on the freeway is a nightmare today! Do you have to drive far to get here?

8. We’re all going across the street for lunch. Want to come?

9. I can’t believe summer/winter is almost over. Where does the time go?

10. Did you see that YouTube video about the snake that ate three baby goats?

Of course, you can adjust these to fit your purposes. And if you are close to this person, your conversations will obviously stray into less superficial aspects of life, such as art, politics, current events, their love life, your love life, Kim Kardashian’s love life, and so on. But use these as a guideline and you will never get yourself in hot water.

Fla. attorney general seeks to delay marriage cases

Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi last Thursday requested that a state appeals court put a hold on two cases challenging the state's ban on same-sex marriage until the U.S. Supreme Court has decided on the issue.

"This is a clear attempt to delay resolution on an issue the majority of Floridians support," Equality Florida said in a statement.

Nice To See StevieB: Steve In The Box

By StevieB

I have been attempting to eat in a healthier manner. This is a far cry from the back-lash of my stuff-everything-into-my-face-hole policy I employed after the Speedo clad cruise in February. There has been an increase of dinning on the Caesar salad at restaurants, and finding myself heading to vegetarian / Vegan place to dine. On my own. And enjoying it.

This is of course not calculating my dark, deep secret. My addiction.

I have been hiding this addiction from my friends and family. My complete chemical addiction to Jack in The Box. An addiction that I am powerless to conquer. As an example, I'll will give you last Friday: For lunch I ate my healthy prepared salad to get me through evening. I then left work after ten p.m. and made a straight path for Jack in The Box for a teriyaki bowl and three egg rolls. Which, I ate sitting in my Jeep in the parking lot of my gym. After happy egg roll time, I did go have a massively great work out, so there is that. After the gym I headed to the bar which I then closed. As I'm friends with the entire staff, I hung out after closing to watch a series of strange events, including a round of "foreskin shots. " Better if you don't ask. I was neither the shot glass, nor the drinker. But, I finally, in my life, feel cheated in that I don't have a built in shot glass.
Around four a.m. I headed towards the ranch. On my way I stopped off at... you guested it, Jack in The Box. Consuming a front seat full of horrible, tasty items like a bear eating a small goat. If the bear drove a well-apointed , yet dented Jeep.

So my secret is out. I require my friends to help me kick this self-destructive habit. A habit I'm powerless to stop. Jack. I'm braking up with you. I know you bring me instant happiness. I know how much you love me, yet it's a calorie filled empty love. You're just no good for me.

From Urban Adventures to Mountain Panoramas, Denver is the Place to Be This Labor Day Weekend

What better way to kick off Labor Day Weekend than driving up the highest paved road in North America?

The scenic highway to the summit of Mount Evans is just 60 miles from Denver, but it twists and turns through five different climate zones before reaching the summit at 14,260 feet above sea level. From the top, you can see five states, all of metro Denver and hundreds of snowcapped peaks.  It’s not unusual for it to snow at the summit – even in July and August.  The road is frequently closed for the year by weather as early as mid-September, so Labor Day is traditionally the last guaranteed weekend to make the trek.  Along the way enjoy herds of big horn sheep, Rocky Mountain goats, lakes, tundra, hiking trails and dozens of varieties of colorful wildflowers.

And Mount Evans is just the beginning. Spread out below the mountain are an assortment of urban adventures. Here are 10 ways to enjoy Labor Day Weekend 2014 in the Mile High City, while taking advantage of some great deals at Denver’s best hotels.

County judge in Tenn. upholds state marriage ban

A county judge in Tennessee last week broke a string of pro-marriage equality rulings by upholding the state's ban on marriage for same-sex couples. A federal appeals court is expected to rule soon on the constitutionality of Tennessee's ban, which could result in the ban being struck down along with bans in three other states.
