During the auction lot for ROCKETMAN: an epic musical fantasy about the incredible human story of Elton John, Alexander Gilkes welcomed to the stage actor Taron Egerton, star of the upcoming motion picture film. Following a short preview of the trailer and a round of bidding on a trip to the London premiere of the film, the audience was taken by surprise when Gilkes asked Taron to sing one of Elton John’s songs. Only agreeing to the performance if Elton played the piano, guests were brought to their feet as they watched Elton John take his position on the keys while Taron belted out the lyrics to one of his most beloved ballads, “Tiny Dancer.” 

Ria Mae announces EP 'Stars'

Today, Ria Mae announced the release of her highly anticipated EP, Stars, out March 8. On Friday, Ria also surprised fans with the release of the R&B infused “Trixi.” The provocative new track about desire and obsession is available to stream and download now.

“Trixi” is the fourth song off Stars released to date. It follows, "It's You" (Acoustic)," "Not At Peace" and the EP’s first single, "Hold Me." It was produced and mixed by Kris Eriksson (The Chainsmokers, Afro Jack, Tori Kelly).

Stars takes its name from the title track off the album written by Ria Mae, Erik Alcock (P!nk, Eminem) and Calum Brockie. “For me, it’s a song about a tough journey, but never giving up or losing faith,” says Ria. That mindset inspired the writing of the EP and the title of Ria’s headlining Canadian tour. The “Never Coming Down” cross-Canada tour kicked off in the fall of 2018 and will conclude with two sold out shows in Ria’s hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 8 and 9.  

Ria’s new EP is a follow up to the JUNO Award nominated, My Love. The first single “Bend” became an instant hit, skyrocketing to Top 5 at Hot AC, Top 15 at AC, and Top 15 at CHR radio, reaching platinum certification status. Last year, Ria was nominated for “Album of the Year” at the 2018 JUNO Awards. 2019 Suicide Prevention Day at the Capitol

On Tuesday, February 26th, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention Colorado Chapter will join together with Mental Health Colorado, Suicide Prevention Coalition of Colorado (SPCC), and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Colorado to present the 1st Annual Suicide Prevention Day at the Capitol.

State Capitol Days bring together passionate volunteers to advocate for state policy changes that will improve mental health and help prevent suicide.

Netta - Bassa Sababa

Another powder keg of energy, the track begins with an a capella chant before unfurling over ecstatic electronic production and a robotic warbling of the title. As soon as Netta belts, “Stop…call your mama,” it gallops over tribal guitar and propulsive percussion back towards an instantly hummable refrain.

“Bassa Sababa,” Netta's first release since the competition, fuses together contemporary sounds, EDM and 70's Folk-Rock with a contagious African beat. The song's title is a mixture of two opposite words in Hebrew/Arabic which essentially mean "Sad" & "Happy", while the lyrics of the song express Netta's individuality and celebrate her flaws as an empowering force. It was co-written & produced by Netta along with collaborators Avshalom Ariel and Stav Berger. This is the same team that wrote and produced her global hit “Toy.”

The video, directed by Roy Raz (Jennifer Hudson, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dita Von Teese) is described as a bubblegum gore fantasy which mixes equal parts of sweetness and aggressiveness. Filmed in the Ukraine, the video begins with Netta on her wedding day being dumped at the altar. Instead of being hurt and playing the victim, Netta plans revenge and gets even.

UK PM Theresa May awards ‘outstanding’ National Student Pride founder

UK Prime Minister Theresa May yesterday recognised Tom Guy, from London, for founding the largest student-led LGBT+ event in the UK.

In a personal letter to Tom, Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Tom’s work with National Student Pride, including the festival's support for the campaign that led to her Government bringing in compulsory sex education to all schools:


"The extraordinary success of ‘National Student Pride’ is a testament to your outstanding commitment to helping young LGBT people feel comfortable in their identity. By bringing together students from across the UK and internationally for an engaging weekend of performances, discussion and careers support, you have built a remarkable platform for young LGBT voices to be heard. I wish you the very best with this year’s event.”

Tom said, "I am delighted to be the Point of Light, and especially so that 'National Student Pride' is taking place this weekend. The work we do at National Student Pride is so important in providing a safe space for LGBT+ students to have their first pride and discover their true identity. Each year we tackle topical issues such as Gender, Homelessness and Mental Health and this year Ian McKellen is joining us as we discuss Activism and Race."

Tom founded the organisation in 2005 as a student at Oxford Brookes University to promote progressive voices on campus and tackle homophobia.

Since then, the event has grown to attract over 1,700 students from more than 170 universities and colleges worldwide to participate in an annual weekend festival of talks, exhibitions, and workshops hosted at the University of Westminster.

The event includes a careers fair providing tailored support for LGBT+ students and aims to improve diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

National Student Pride has also worked with the National Union of Students LGBT+ and Terrence Higgins Trust to support the campaign to make sex and relationships education compulsory in schools, which the Government approved in 2017.

In 2016 Tom also founded and now Chairs the 'Architecture LGBT+' network which is now flourishing and helping to provide role models in a space where homophobia is still prevalent.

Tom is the latest recipient of the Points of Light award, which recognises outstanding volunteers who are making a change in their community and inspiring others. Each day, someone, somewhere in the country is selected to receive the award to celebrate their remarkable achievements. Tom's award coincides with this year’s National Student Pride event, and LGBT History Month.

Laura Yates, Head of Graduate Recruitment at Clifford Chance, a partner of National Student Pride, added, "'National Student Pride' wouldn't have been possible without Tom's vision of creating a safe space for young people to explore who they really whilst debating the most pressing societal problems and creating a unique support network of peers and future employers.”

5 Ways Young People (And Everyone Else) Can Fight For The Environment

Climate change continues to draw attention globally, from governmental debates on pollution solutions to people protesting against a lack of action.

In Europe, teenage girls and young women are leading a large student environmental movement, and organizers in the U.S. are planning to join an international day of action on March 15. Against this backdrop, those engaged in environmental issues say that while there is strength in numbers during protest events, the difference often starts with individuals doing the right things daily for clean air and water – when no one is watching.

“Creating awareness on a massive stage is wonderful, but how many realize the responsibility each of us has in this critical battle and how it can’t be won unless we all make the necessary changes?” asks Leslie Landis, author of Chendell: A Natural Warrior, a fantasy novel with environmental themes.

Landis hopes her novel will expand awareness of climate change and inspire young people to work together and foster environmental improvements. The characters in her book have a special relationship with nature and that leads to a superhero who fights for environmental issues.

“Anyone can be a hero in the fight against pollution; anyone can step up for any of the environmental problems that plague us and be a natural warrior,” Landis says. “From everyday habits to small lifestyle changes, doing those things daily can make a huge difference.”

Landis lists five ways to be a natural warrior for the environment:

• Take a tote. “Ditch the plastic shopping bag and opt for a more versatile alternative like a reusable tote bag,” Landis says. “States like California are already doing their part to reduce the use of plastic bags, and you can help carry that movement forward by keeping a handful of reusable bags in your house and car.”

• Think before you drink. “Say goodbye to plastic water bottles by getting a reusable canteen or thermos,” Landis says. “Not only do these items help Mother Nature by cutting down on plastic waste, they also reduce your exposure to BPA and help keep your beverages insulated.”

• Get thrifty. “The fashion industry creates a lot of unnecessary waste,” Landis says. “But you can help slow it down by giving discarded clothes a second chance. Shop at thrift stores, second-hand shops and vintage boutiques. By sporting looks from the past, you’ll actually be helping the environment in the future.”

• Don’t put the pedal to the metal. Environmental experts talk about how we all leave carbon footprints by the modes of transportation we use. “It’s a lot larger than you think,” Landis says. “Fortunately, there are many alternative means of transportation. Whether you ride your bike to work, carpool to school, or walk, you’ll be saving yourself from the high price of gas while helping reduce carbon emissions in our air.”

• Grow green. Whether you’re planting trees to combat the carbon emissions or planting an edible garden to cut back on store-bought waste, Landis says, “Putting your green thumb to good use will always have a positive effect on the government.”

“It’s great to see young people in particular get involved in large numbers regarding climate change,” Landis says. “But it’s amazing how simple it is for everyone to get involved to save our most precious resources.”

O-Town and Colton Underwood Collaborate on New Song 'Hello World'

Remember O-Town? They've got a new track, "Hello World", featuring former NFL player and ABC's The Bachelor star, Colorado's own Colton Underwood. The track can be streamed via Spotify and downloaded via iTunes.

"Hello World" is a product of Colton Underwood and O-TOWN member Jacob Underwood's friendship. Shortly after Colton approached Jacob about writing a song to help raise money and awareness for his charity, the Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation, Jacob penned "Hello World". Then, O-TOWN and Colton recorded the song together in San Diego.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of "Hello World" will be donated to the Colton Underwood Legacy Foundation. The Legacy Foundation is a non-profit organization that was created by Colton Underwood to empower people with cystic fibrosis to live fully, dream big and support each other. The foundation raises funds for research and provides equipment and resources for people of all ages living with cystic fibrosis.

Colton Underwood says, "Very excited to be releasing 'Hello World' and grateful to O-TOWN for partnering up! They are so great to be using this song to help raise funds for the Legacy Foundation and I know it's going to be big! It's a fun song to listen to, but most importantly, an anthem for anyone to live your best life. It's not only for the CF [Cystic Fibrosis] warriors, but for anyone out there dealing with anything in life."

O-TOWN's Jacob Underwood adds, "There's nothing more rewarding than the opportunity to use our God-given gifts to help people in need. This song is very special to me, and I hope that it becomes an anthem not only for the kids effected by Cystic Fibrosis, but anyone who has chosen to live their best life in the face of pain and heartache.
