Miki Ratsula Explores Gender Envy With "Jealous of My Brother"
Miki explains, “Below the surface, ‘Jealous of My Brother’ explores a deeper topic of being envious that my brother doesn’t have to deal with the transphobic microaggressions that I inevitably have to experience from my family (whether their intentions are good or not). The reality is, I will always be treated differently from them because I am trans, and he is not. And then even deeper, this is also a thank you letter to my brother. I am nothing but grateful for him. He is the best ally I could ask for. I wish my family could be as great of an ally as he is.”
Miki Ratsula has been releasing music independently since they were 16, having racked up over 50 million streams in the process. The Southern California-based, Finnish American artist has developed a devoted audience by openly and honestly welcoming people into their world, from coming out to getting top surgery to struggles with mental health. Last year, Miki released their debut full-length album, i owe it to myself, an acoustic pop dream guided by Miki’s lush, lofi-inspired production that captures the full emotional seesaw that rocks between youth and adulthood. Their deeply intimate record received praise and playlisting by the likes of Billboard Pride, them., Under the Radar, PopMatters, The Advocate and more. They followed the album with their made for them EP, featuring gender-neutral covers of songs by Dodie, Phoebe Bridgers, Harry Styles, Angus & Julia Stone and One Direction, which Billboard noted: “they took a fan-beloved single and gave it a modernized, indie-pop twist that adds a touch of sentimentality, making 1D’s romantic jam even more tender.”

IGLTA & IGLTA Foundation Celebrate International Transgender Day of Visibility
Last year, The IGLTA Foundation formed the Transgender Advisory Group to better support the ‘T’ in LGBTQ+. This volunteer group works to help develop training and resources to elevate the lives of transgender people. Read more here about the members of the group and the incredible work they do year-round.
“We’re seeing anti-LGBTQ+ laws on the rise all around the world, with many of them especially harmful to our gender-diverse community. It’s so important for our global network to stand up and speak out about these attacks against members of our community,” said IGLTA CEO/President John Tanzella. “That’s exactly why our Foundation has formed a global advisory group to improve resources for gender-diverse travelers and the tourism industry.”

GLAAD + Ty Herndon Partner To Bring Concert For Love & Acceptance Back to the Stage Live on June 7 in Nashville
“With LGBTQ youth and families under attack here in Tennessee and across the country, it’s more important than ever that Nashville come together to send a strong message to them that they are loved just the way they are. Treating each other with kindness, dignity, respect, and equality under the law should never be a political issue. We are all human, and we all deserve to be loved and accepted,” said Herndon.
Herndon and GLAAD joined together for the first time in 2015 to create the Concert For Love & Acceptance to promote LGBTQ visibility and acceptance among the country music community and artists, industry leaders, and fans. Held as an annual live event until 2019, the Concert was staged as a virtual event in response to the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021. The event has featured performances and appearances by LGBTQ artists and allies, including Reba McEntire, Vince Gill, Brothers Osborne, Jake Owen, Kristin Chenoweth, Chely Wright, Tanya Tucker, Brett Young, Michael Ray, Mickey Guyton, Chris Daughtry, Lily Rose, and many more.
“Although it is currently an extremely turbulent time for LGBTQ people as we are forced to navigate many barriers being brought forth by a wave of anti-LGBTQ bills popping up all over the country, there is still a palpable momentum happening in Nashville and within country music to make it a more welcoming place for queer people,” said GLAAD Vice President of Communications and Talent, Anthony Allen Ramos. The Concert for Love & Acceptance's core message of treating others with respect is more urgent than ever.”
The event will take place at Wildhorse Saloon in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday, June 7 at 7:30 pm. Click here for ticket information.

EEOC Sues Pizzeria for Harassing and Driving Out Transgender Employee
T C Wheelers, Inc., which operates T.C. Wheelers Bar & Pizzeria in Tonawanda, New York, violated federal law when management and employees harassed an employee because of his gender identity, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charged in a lawsuit filed today.
The EEOC alleges that beginning in January 2021, one of T.C. Wheelers’ owners repeatedly harassed Quinn J. Gambino, a transgender male, including telling Gambino that he “wasn’t a real man,” asking invasive questions about his transition, and asking, “Does she have female parts?” According to the EEOC’s complaint, T.C. Wheelers’ owners also intentionally misgendered Gambino by using female pronouns (such as “she” or “her”) and stood by as employees and customers did the same.
The federal agency further alleges that management and employees at T.C. Wheelers made numerous other anti-transgender comments, including asking questions about Gambino’s genitalia, telling him he wasn’t a “real guy,” and equating being transgender to pedophilia.
Gambino, who worked as a cook at T.C. Wheelers, complained repeatedly to management, the EEOC said. TC Wheelers failed to protect Gambino by not addressing the almost daily harassment from all levels of staff, including owners, managers, and line employees. Eventually, Gambino had no choice but to resign to escape the harassment, the EEOC charged.
Such alleged conduct violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of sex. Harassment based upon gender identity is a form of sex discrimination prohibited by the statute.
“This new lawsuit, filed one day before Transgender Day of Visibility, reflects the EEOC’s longstanding commitment to protecting transgender persons from employment discrimination, including the type of egregious harassment alleged in this case,” said EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows. “In the current climate, where transgender individuals face increasing attacks on their rights and basic humanity, the EEOC will vigorously enforce the Supreme Court’s holding in Bostock that discrimination against transgender workers violates the law.”
The EEOC filed suit (EEOC v. T.C. Wheelers, Inc. d/b/a T.C. Wheelers Bar & Pizzeria, Civil Action No. 1:23-cv-00286) in U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York, Buffalo Division, after first attempting to reach a pre-litigation settlement through the agency’s conciliation process. The EEOC seeks back pay, compensatory damages, and punitive damages for the affected employee, and injunctive relief to remedy and prevent workplace future gender-based harassment.
“Everyone, regardless of their gender identity, deserves to work in an environment free from harassment,” said Jeffrey Burstein, regional attorney for the EEOC’s New York District Office. “This lawsuit makes clear that the EEOC will not tolerate workplace harassment of transgender individuals.”
EEOC New York Acting District Director Timothy Riera added, “Employers must understand that Title VII protects employees from discrimination based upon gender identity and that they have a responsibility to prevent such discrimination from occurring. Employers should handle complaints of harassment seriously and take measures to prevent such abuse. If they fail to do so, the EEOC stands at the ready to enforce federal law.”
For more information on sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination, please visit https://www.eeoc.gov/
The EEOC’s New York District Office is responsible for processing discrimination charges, administrative enforcement, and the conduct of agency litigation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, northern New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The agency’s Buffalo Local Office conducted the investigation resulting in this lawsuit. Trial Attorney James Bobseine and Supervisory Trial Attorney Nora Curtin will litigate the case.
The EEOC advances opportunity in the workplace by enforcing federal laws prohibiting employment discrimination. More information is available at www.eeoc.gov.

ABBA Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of "Ring Ring" in Multiple Formats
Reaching record shops in Sweden on March 26, 1973, Ring Ring offered a wealth of great pop tunes. There was, for instance, "People Need Love," the very first ABBA single, and "He Is Your Brother," a popular number on ABBA’s 1977 tour of Europe and Australia. Crucially, on the title track the ABBA sound was born as the group discovered how attractive the sound of multi-layered vocals was and how exciting a song could be if you made use of all the possibilities of the recording studio.
The public responded well to "Ring Ring" – the song and the album. Famously, for two consecutive weeks in April 1973, the Swedish "Ring Ring" single was at Number One, the English-language version at Number Two, and the Ring Ring album at Number Three on the combined singles-and-albums chart used in Sweden at the time. Record-buyers had fallen head over heels in love with this brand new group. And ABBA’s sense of joy in trying different song styles and thrilling studio trickery can still be felt today, half a century later.
The Ring Ring album was originally credited to Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida – the name ABBA didn’t quite exist yet. The group itself almost didn’t exist, as the two ladies were still pursuing solo careers and the two men were busy with many different projects when the album was recorded. But its huge success sealed the deal: from now on they would be ABBA.
