Tom Goss and Actor-Turned-Rapper Daniel Franzese Celebrate Plus-Sized Gay Geeks with Fuzzy Cheeks in 'Nerdy Bear: The Remix'

Last summer, Tom Goss paid homage to the subset of plus-sized gay men that enjoy superheroes and video games with his smash anthem, “Nerdy Bear.” Now he returns with “Nerdy Bear: The Markaholic Remix,” a reinterpretation of the song from the bear’s perspective, featuring brand-new rhymes by the gay community’s ultimate nerdy bear, Mean Girls and Looking actor Daniel Franzese. “The remix was my idea,” says Franzese. “When Tom’s original came out last summer, I was like ‘OMG, it's about time we got an anthem of guys pursuing us in song. We should do a remix of this track where the bear responds that he’s down to party—and I should rap on it!’” Tom Goss’s “Nerdy Bear: The Markaholic Remix (featuring Daniel Franzese)” is available on iTunes, Spotify and all major digital platforms.

The friends have worked on several projects together over the past few years. Most notably, Franzese played Tom’s husband in a series of videos from the singer’s Territories album. “It’s always fun to work with Danny and at this point it seems like we’re just making up opportunities to work together,” Goss laughs.

The original “Nerdy Bear” is a pop track, with a big, snappy sound, an infectious melody, and a sultry R&B vibe. The remix—by LA-based producer Markaholic
(RuPaul, Trixie Mattel, Willam Belli)—raises the BPMs and adds slick and seductive rhymes written by Franzese. He wittily weaves explicit sexual connotations into many of the popular arcade games from the 80s, as in: “If you like whips and chains, we can do the Double Dragon,” referencing the martial arts game. He continues with “I’ll follow you down your Oregon trail and hitch on to your wagon.”

He makes similar playful associations with the shapes from Tetris, the cherries in Pac-Man and the mushrooms in Mario Brothers. The idea is not just about getting laughs; it is meant to convey the confidence Franzese and others in the gay bear community have built by not only accepting their girth, but embracing it. “It’s fun to find unique ways to amplify body positivity and happiness,” says Franzese.

Michael Serrato (Big Gay Sketch Show, Neil's Puppet Dreams), Goss’s long-time collaborator, who directed the original “Nerdy Bear,” returns to direct the remix version. “I always love the movement and cheekiness Michael brings to a project,” Goss reflects. “He can always make me smile.”

Goss brings a few smiles of his own in the video, debuting his stripper moves. He’s not quite sure where he learned them. “I guess years of taking off my clothes to try to get people to listen to my music,” he jokes.

Tom Goss was 22 and in seminary, training to be a Catholic priest, when he realized his strong attraction for plus-sized men, known as "bears" in the gay community, and nerdy ones to boot. “‘Nerdy Bear’ is authentic to my experience and relays my unique perspective that beauty doesn’t fit a standard mold,” he says.

Tom Goss releases "Big Fat Gay Ass Christmas"

Tom Goss' new EP, Big Fat Gay Ass Christmas, is Christmas-themed, but with songs like “Santa Slay,” “Put that Ass in Christmass,” “Sassy Santa,” and “Ho Ho Homo,” it’s not a traditional holiday album.  “I want people to laugh and smile, then strip down to their undies and dance,” he says.  “That’s the Christmas I’m most looking forward to this year!”

Rock the Folk OUT

Regent Media announced today the return of Out magazine’s partnership with here! Tunes to present the “Rock the Folk OUT” music tour. Capitalizing on the success of December’s East Coast tour, “Rock the Folk OUT” heads West between April 22nd and May 12th. The multi-city concert tour showcases incredible, live music from three gifted, gay singer/songwriters. The bill includes here! Tunes recording artist Stewart Lewis, Los Angeles scene favorite Jake Walden, and acoustic performer Tom Goss. Each artist brings a unique flavor with their varied performance styles, but they are unified by an exceptional level of talent and poignant songwriting skills.

Eric Sosa of The Zipper Factory Theater in New York City, where the tour played in December, noted: "The Zipper Factory was thrilled to host the first leg of the ‘Rock the Folk OUT’ tour in December of 2008. The immensely gifted Jake Walden, Stewart Lewis and Tom Goss played to a nearly sold-out crowd and brought a uniqueness to The Zipper that was both relevant and enchanting. In a genre that is mostly known for female singer-songwriters, ‘Rock the Folk OUT’ is truly an important showcase of some of the country's up-and-coming male voices."

Tim Neary, owner of Club Q in Missoula, Montana, where the tour will be on April 25th said, “We here in Montana feel privileged to have the opportunity to host a national LGBT music tour. These intimate performances treat fans to the toe-tapping, head-bopping acoustic melodies of Tom Goss, whose recent offering, “Rise,” has been recognized by DC Acoustic Underground as “easily one of the best releases this year.” Jake Walden’s piano-driven, bittersweet ballads provide equally pleasing melodies of a more somber tone. Walden’s elegant growl and rasp has earned the raw performer comparisons to Tom Waits. Jake states, "I can't wait to get back on the road with Tom and Stewart who are both inspiring and brilliant songwriters. I have so many fans in cities I will visit for the first time. I look forward to meeting some of them, and playing for new ones as well. When on the road I'm constantly reminded of why I do what I do...there is nothing that makes me feel more alive.”

Stewart Lewis, the signature recording artist of the here! Tunes label, also looks forward to the dynamic tour. Lewis’ latest album, “In Formation,” inspired Gay.com to laud him as “the feel good artist of the millennium.”

“The East Coast leg of the ‘Rock the Folk OUT’ tour proved an incredible success. These three inspiring talents played to enthusiastic and supportive crowds and had some fun in their own right,” said Brian Goldman, General Manager of here! Tunes. “Initiating a second leg of the tour on the West Coast seemed a no brainer.”

Tom Goss & Frank Perricone - What's Christmas Without You

Tom Goss teamed up with friend Frank Perricone to write a beautiful new Christmas song called "What's Christmas Without You?" and a hilariously joyful video to go along with it.

Says Goss, "I have no doubt this video will give you all sorts of warm feelings, while making you laugh along the way. Take a moment to watch, listen, and laugh, then share it with your friends and family. Cause let's face it, the holidays are nothing without those you love."

Tom Goss - Gay Christmas

Here's the video for a song that Tom Goss wrote just last week, while thinking about his decision not to go home for Christmas this year. The song, which comes out as millions of people head home for the holidays, was inspired by the pain many LGBT people feel while struggling to be accepted by their families and childhood friends.

"Too many of us have had to learn to accept less from our families when it comes to fully embracing us for who we are," says Goss, who hails from Wisconsin but now lives in Los Angeles with his husband. "It's become even worse since the election, due to the sense of betrayal we felt when we learned how family and friends voted. Yet we are expected to be the ones to forgive, to 'move on' and pretend everything is okay, even as the current administration and GOP keep supporting anti-gay politicians and policies."

Tom Goss - Pride

“Pride,” the new song from Tom Goss, celebrates the rainbow of people who make up the LGBTQ community and their stories of hope, perseverance, triumph, and love.

Says Tom, "The freedom of the way we love, and the celebration of pride would not be possible without the help of those that came before us. They endured more than we can imagine and because they didn't want that life for us, they created a new world for us. I am grateful."
