Pride Summer Glam 2012: A conversation with the beautiful and talented Erica Cobb

Erica Cobb
Chicago native Erica Cobb has only been in Denver for a few years but she's already made a big splash as a TV and radio personality and noted straight ally of the gay community.

This Friday, June 15 she'll present Summer Glam 2012 - a Pride concert and celebration featuring diva Deborah Cox, underwear king Andrew Christian (and lots of hot, half-naked models), MTV's Danny Roberts, actor/musician Jason Dottley and a host of Denver drag queens and entertainers.

I had the chance to chat with Erica recently and here's what she had to say about Summer Glam, Denver's gay community, and banana hammocks.

Drew: How did Summer Glam come about?
Summer Glam came about originally because I was going through some career transitions and didn't know how much longer I'd remain in Denver.  It was actually just some chatter over a pretty fabulous lunch meeting that I should throw this party for the LGBT community who supported me so much over the years as a last hurrah type thing.

I NEVER envisioned securing Deborah Cox to come and perform and having such amazing supporting talent with Sordid Lives star and Pop Prince Jason Dottley, Real World New Orleans' Danny Roberts, the Andrew Christian fashion show and all of my fabulous drag queens and emcees Goddess Duane, Kiera Sexton, Venus Sexton, Sushi Chan, Shanida Lawya and Angelina Essex.  It's become like a fabulously flamboyant America's Got Talent: Denver Edition!

Members of Denver's gay community have been trying to get Deborah Cox to come here for years with Facebook petitions and things. How did you accomplish it?
Well, if I'm out of pocket for periods of time my friends know how to get me so I channeled that thought and CALLED HER HUSBAND!!  LOL, no seriously, her husband manages her and we had a great conversation.  At the end of the conversation he said to me "Erica, whether this works out or not, I think this is a really great thing you're trying to do."  That lit a fire in me and I thought, we HAVE to get this done!

Then everything started falling into place with investors, the media backing from Clear Channel and 95.7 The Party and the community enthusiasm and support.  It just seemed like all things were possible.  At the end of the day they are!

You've got an Andrew Christian underwear fashion show planned. What kind of underwear do you prefer on a man - boxers, briefs, or something else entirely?
I'm gonna go with a banana hammock that reads "make my day" ;) ... No seriously, definitely briefs it's always best to go "Beckham-esque!"

How would you describe your relationship with Denver's gay community?
I would like to think it's one of mutual respect and family.  I don't believe that family is 100% made up of people you are blood related to.  After relocating to Denver, I realized that I needed to have family here.  My husband and I felt so welcomed by the community that it was just a natural fit.

What's your message for readers of MileHighGayGuy.com?
I really hope that Summer Glam is an event that is an annual thing here in Denver.  PRIDE is like Christmas to me and to have another party that celebrates such a fabulous weekend is like a crazy dream.  This event on Friday will be about fun, celebration and togetherness.  I can't wait to see you all there!

Anything else you'd like to say?
