How to report child pornography

The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) has released a public service announcement explaining how to report online child pornography (CP).

The sexual exploitation of children is a heinous crime and reporting CP could help save a child from being further victimized. However when reporting CP it could be just as important to know what not to do as it is to know what to do in order to not become criminally liable for the possession or distribution of child pornography. ASACP’s “How to Report Child Pornography” PSA explains exactly what to do, and what not to do, if you come across suspect child pornography online.

“ASACP’s CP hotline receives an average of 7,000 reports each month; however, coming across CP on the internet is a situation few are prepared for. What makes it so difficult is the shock of seeing the image of a very young child, even babies, being horribly sexually abused. It’s so upsetting that many people have a hard time properly reporting what they’ve seen,” stated Joan Irvine CEO of ASACP. “That is why ASACP created this new PSA on how to report CP.”

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP operates an online reporting hotline that can help you to report child pornography. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online, through initiatives like its RTA (“Restricted to Adults”) website label.

Ron Jeremy for Internet Safety Month

Adult industry superstar Ron Jeremy stars in this Internet Safety Month PSA for the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP).

“I strongly believe that adult entertainment should only be seen by its intended audience – adults. Parents need to take responsibility for their children online and that means installing and activating parental filtering software. This is not a substitute for active parenting, but it is a safeguard that parents need to take. With that in mind, I’ve already teamed up with XXXchurch and Craig Gross to create a series of PSAs stating that children should not watch porn. That PSA was seen by so many people that Jay Leno even mentioned it on 'The Tonight Show' and I hope this PSA gets the same visibility,” said Jeremy.

It's a great cause.

The Internet can be a scary and confusing place for kids and we should all do anything we can to help make it safer for them.

ASACP fights child pornography

The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) re-launched its website, ASACP.org, with a new look and new features including PSAs like the one below featuring adult film director Chi Chi Larue.

ASACP.org has always been a vital resource as a child pornography (CP) reporting hotline. Since 2003 it has received over 400,000 reports of suspect CP. In addition the website has offered parental resources and best practices for the adult industry. The new ASACP.org website continues to offer these features, but has streamlined its look to increase its navigatability.

“When a surfer searches for ways to report suspect child pornography on Google and Yahoo, ASACP.org is usually in the top search results. So we wanted to make it easier with a calmer feel for these people because they are usually upset from being exposed to such horrific images; the new site design does this,” stated ASACP CEO Joan Irvine. “Also, we hope the new site has increased our ability to be an important resource for the adult industry. Whether you are new to the industry and want to learn more about our recommended best practices, or you are an experienced webmaster and are looking for tips on how to protect your sites – ASACP.org is here for you!”

People always ask how they can support ASACP. In the past it was only through sponsorship, membership, or by holding a fundraising event. This did not provide a way for the surfer to help. The new site has a prominent Donate Now button. Also, the new ASACP.org provides a banner farm to webmasters so that companies can add a Help Protect Children button and offer their customers the opportunity to help ASACP operate the CP reporting hotline. Also there is a new section for members that highlights an Affinity Program that provides discounted services and products for ASACP members and sponsors.

Founded in 1996, the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to eliminating child pornography from the Internet. ASACP also works to help parents prevent children from viewing age-inappropriate material online. More information is available at www.asacp.org.

Badpuppy.com: Helping to protect kids from online porn

The pioneer Gay adult website, Badpuppy (site NSFW) has taken on the task of getting the word out about the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP) to both the adult industry and their consumer reach, by promoting ASACP and all of their efforts, across a multitude of their internet properties.

“After speaking with ASACP CEO Joan Irvine at the Phoenix Forum, we decided that we wanted to do all that we could, above and beyond a company or member sponsorship, in which to show support for ASACP,” stated Lisa Turner, long time Marketing / Advertising / Affiliate Manager for Badpuppy. “Their mission is so very important in not only protecting the children, but protecting our rights in the industry and the consumer rights to enjoy the adult content they rightfully enjoy.”

Turner added, “We decided that between the Webmaster traffic and Consumer traffic that Badpuppy has immediate access to, that we could promote them, their cause, and valiant efforts to all who visit the sites that we own. We do this in hopes of educating webmasters who may not be familiar with ASACP and what it means to support them, as well as sharing that same education with the consumers who frequent our sites, showing them what their support and donations can accomplish. Badpuppy would like to take this opportunity to request that everyone in the adult industry show their support for ASACP, in one capacity or another; by donations, membership, sponsorship and/or by educating webmasters and consumer traffic, as to just who ASACP is and what they and their continued efforts mean to all of the Adult Industry, whether they own a website or not.”

“Even small donations can help ASACP to run its child pornography reporting hotline and provide the Restricted to Adults – RTA Website Label which protects children from being exposed to age-inappropriate material while protecting the rights to enjoy adult entertainment,” stated ASACP CEO Joan Irvine.

Irvine added, “As with other companies, today’s economy is having a negative impact on contributions to ASACP. So we’ve been looking for additional revenue sources, but because ASACP is mainly funded by the adult industry, the sources are limited. Companies/people are always asking what they can do to help support the ASACP child protection mission, in addition to becoming a sponsor or member. But few have taken it to heart as Lisa Turner at Badpuppy. Badpuppy has created a comprehensive program that uses almost every one of their properties to spread the word about the ASACP’s child protection effort, educate their webmasters, and request contribution from their members. ASACP is incredibly grateful to Badpuppy for their support.”

This is just the beginning, as Badpuppy plans on looking at other creative ways to market ASACP and their RTA website label.
