Colorado Queer Youth Summit call for proposals

Call for Workshop Proposals
Hi all,

On February 26th LGBTQ youth from across Colorado are putting together the 3rd annual Colorado Queer Youth Summit. The youth summit is an all day event that hosts workshops, performances and all together creates a space for LGBTQ young people to connect with each other, learn about social justice and continue to build a queer youth movement.

This year the coalition of youth and adult allies that organizes the summit has created four different tracks that will encompass the workshops and sessions at our 2011 summit. Tracksoffer a guide to the types of workshops youth summit organizers are prioritizing

as well as help in organizing and scheduling the day. We are excited to
present the following tracks: Youth Organizing, Show Me Some Love, Who
We Are and Art/Media.

We call organizations, projects, and
individuals around the state and country to submit workshop/session
proposals for the Colorado Queer Youth Summit. By visiting our website www.coqueeryouthsummit.org you will find descriptions of the tracks and a workshops submission form.

Deadline
for workshop/session proposals is February 1st. Feel free to contact us
if you have any questions or comments on the proposal
process. We
will be hosting a half day facilitation/workshop creation workshop on
February 12th that is open to individuals presenting at the summit.
This workshop will help presenters
with skills that will make their workshop/session as interactive,
creative, and engaging as possible. Please pass this email on to anyone
and everyone.

In community,

Colorado Queer Youth Summit recap

More than 150 youth from around the state descended on Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver on Feb. 13 for the second annual Colorado Queer Youth Summit.

The summit included workshops on topics ranging from spirituality to separatism within the LGBT community. The day also showcased dance performances, art creation and group activities.
The summit is also meant to help LGBT and questioning youth network so they don't feel isolated and alone.

"The youth of this state offer the one true hope that the change we seek will happen and be sustained for the long term," said Andie Lyons, program manager for Rainbow Alley.

Rainbow Alley was one of the organizing sponsors of the event, along with The Lambda Center in Fort Collins and several other LGBT organizations around the state.

Hundreds of youth visit the Alley every month for friendship, support and a safe space to hang out. The Alley is a drop-in center designed to support LGBT youth and their allies ages 12-21. It provides a warm and welcoming environment for the youth to be themselves.

Click here to read about the youth who were featured in a Denver Post story on the summit.

Colorado Queer Youth Summit this Saturday

More than 200 LGBT and questioning youth are expected to converge on Mi Casa Resource Center this Saturday in Denver to learn organizing and leadership skills, explore their spirituality and network with other LGBT youth at the Colorado Queer Youth Summit.

"The youth of this state offer the one true hope that the change we seek will happen and be sustained for the long term," said Andie Lyons, program manager for Rainbow Alley, the GLBT Community Center of Colorado's youth drop-in center and one of the organizing sponsors of the summit.

The summit will bring together LGBTQ and allied youth ages 12-24 from across the state for workshops including safer sex, leadership, race and the LGBTQ movement, interpersonal relationships, spirituality/religion, social change, art, and more.
A collaborative group of organizers came together in early 2009 to engage youth in working toward societal change and LGBTQ equality. They created the first Queer Youth Summit in February 2009, with more than 130 youth participating.
