Trial date for the Denver Five set for Wednesday, February 10
February 10, 2010, is the new trial date for the Denver Five (Kate Burns, John Ferguson, Lewis Thompson, Laurin Foxworth and Shari Wilkins). The trial will begin at approximately 8:30 a.m., in the Denver City and County Building, Courtroom 117M (north end, lower level). Motions and jury selection are expected to take place on Wednesday. Testimony is expected to begin on Thursday (Feb 11). The Denver Five were arrested on May 26, 2009, following an act of nonviolent civil protest, in the Denver County Clerk and Recorder’s Office. The action, which included the request for a marriage license for a same-sex couple, followed the California Supreme Court decision to uphold Proposition 8, thus rescinding the right of same-sex couples to marry in the future. - via CQSA

Denver third-grader organizes gay rights rally
Ethan, a third-grader at Montclair Elementary School in Denver, has organized a rally for LGBT equality to take place May 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the west stairs of the Capitol Building. This precocious young student told The Center's Legal Director, Mindy Barton, that he wanted to put on a rally because he felt bad for his neighborhood friend who was picked on because he has two mommies.
He said adults don't understand that these issues affect kids, too. Ethan has been closely following the recent successes in relationship recognition throughout the country and thinks it is time for full marriage equality everywhere. The rally already has the backing of many LGBT groups around town, and the speaker line up will be released shortly. - via CQSA

Happy Birthday to the Colorado Queer Straight Alliance
CQSA turns one year this month. Help them celebrate by telling just one person about CQSA so we can reach 1000 members. It’s so so easy to just send the link in an email, or go to the INVITE tab and put in their email address. The bigger the network, the stronger and more effective the queer/straight alliance will be.
I'm a member.
Are you?
