Do you have gay parents? Do you want to be on MTV?

Do you have gay parents and want to tell your story? Are you proud of what your parents have taught you and want a platform to share their lessons of diversity and acceptance? Or is it harder for you to blend in and reveal that you have two parents of the same sex? Have any of your parents unexpectedly “come out”, causing you to adapt to a whole new household? Now is the chance for kids across America to hear what you have to say! MTV is looking for vibrant and uncensored kids (appearing to be 14-21) who have been raised by gay parents. Please send photographs, videos, and a brief description of each family member to gayfamilycasting@gmail.com.

MTV comes to Denver School of the Arts

MTV's new series "If You Really Knew Me" came to Denver yesterday to shoot one of the first episodes at Denver School of the Arts.

Described by MTV as a real life 'Breakfast Club', the series follows five high school students from different cliques (jocks, geeks, brains, etc) through "Challenge Day", a one-day program designed to break down barriers. MTV has ordered 12 episodes, one of which will feature students from DSA.

More after the jump.

According to Tony Di Santo, president of MTV programming, the new series "breaks down the wall of cliques in high schools and brings kids together".

Challenge Denver Executive Director, Betsy Leighton states, "Executive producer Arnold Shapiro, a long time Challenge Day supporter, is giving the youth America the opportunity to see Challenge Day and it's positive effects with this new program. We are thrilled that Denver is being highlighted".

Denver School of the Arts assistant principal Pete Castillo declared, "we are hoping to bring a unified holistic approach to DSA and Challenge Day does just that by breaking down the barriers between students".

Challenge Day is made possible by Challenge Denver, a local not for profit organization which provides 11 Denver Public Schools with Challenge Day and weekly follow-up. Challenge Denver assumes that many of the issues facing teens, such as stereotyping, racism, sexism, and the use of drugs and alcohol, are caused and exacerbated by isolation. The work of Challenge Denver is aimed at counteracting these causes and fostering respect, tolerance, and self-acceptance, with the ultimate goal of improving participants lives and creating safer schools, thereby increasing school attendance, retention, and graduation.

Denver School of the Arts is the only Colorado school being filmed and was chosen because of its unique student body and long standing partnership with Challenge Denver. Local rapper, social activist, Challenge Denver supporter and former DSA teacher, James Lurie from The Flobots, is volunteering as an adult facilitator for the day.

World premiere of 'Pedro' at Starz

In 2008, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention held its biennial conference on sexually transmitted diseases and announced that at least one out of every four teenaged girls in the United States has a sexually transmitted disease. It is estimated that nearly 19 million new STDs occur each year, and that by the age of 25, one in two sexually active young people will contract a STD.

During the month of April, MTV and Planned Parenthood are teaming up to inform young people about sexually transmitted diseases and infections and encourage routine testing and treatment. The campaign kicks off on April 1 with the world premiere of 'Pedro'. Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains will host a film screening of 'Pedro' at the Starz FilmCenter on April 1.

This MTV film celebrates the life of Pedro Zamora, an HIV-positive 'Real World' cast member who died of AIDS-related complications in 1994. A facilitated discussion featuring a panel of community sexual health experts and moderator Dr. Mark Thrun, director of the HIV/STD Control Program for Denver Public Health, will immediately follow the screening.

Also after the screening of 'Pedro', MTV and Planned Parenthood will unveil a major announcement. AS April is STD Awareness month, the topic couldn’t be timelier to bring local attention to a serious public health concern and the action being taken in our community to encourage individual accountability and promote awareness. The latest research of the rate of STDs in Colorado, reported by the Department of Public Health and Environment, shows an overall rate of 281.3 per 100,000 population. Denver’s rate is two and a half times that rate at 648.9, and has the distinction of having the highest STD rates in the state.

Wanna be on 'The Real World'?

MTV is holding a casting for 'The Real World' this Saturday, March 14 at UC Boulder.

This season they are looking to cast former foster kids, physically challenged people, immigrants, overweight people, grieving people, or someone with a cause or social issue.

Interesting.

'The Real World' filmed their 18th season here in Denver (above) but I quit watching that nonsense about 10 seasons ago.

I still really like the challenges though.

Nothing wrong with drunk sexy people getting into fights and hooking up with each other.

Well, there is but you know what I mean.
