Meet the Rocky Mountaineers

Founded in 1968, the Rocky Mountaineers Motorcycle Club is the oldest gay organization in Colorado and while all of the members share an interest in the sport of motorcycling, the group is also dedicated to socializing and fund-raising.

The Rocky Mountaineers pour beer during beer busts at the Denver Wrangler, co-sponsor the Cruise Against AIDS - which has raised over $160,000 since its inception 25 years ago - and participate in other group's charity rides. In 2009 the Mountaineers were able to donate $500 each to Chesney-Kleinjohn Housing and Horizon House. The group also hosts the annual Golden Fleece Run, one of the country's oldest gay motorcycle runs.

And while the club's primary mission is to promote motorcycling in Denver's gay community you do not need to own a motorcycle to join. Check out the website for more information or drop by one of the monthly meetings at BJ's Carousel at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month.

GLBT Caregivers' Support Group

Jewish Family Service (JFS) and The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Colorado (The Center) recently announced a new caregiver education and support group for members of the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) community. The ongoing group will be held the first and third Thursday of every month from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sixth Avenue United Church, 3250 East Sixth Avenue in Denver. The group is open to members of the GLBT community who are in a caregiver role. The support group is free of charge and donations are welcome.

The caregiver group is facilitated by Jennie Creasey, LCSW and Dee Trasen, LCSW from JFS, and Shari Wilkins, a caregiver and member of the GLBT community. “Caring for someone is challenging in the best of situations, let alone in difficult situations,” says Jennie Creasey. “It is important to receive support from people who know what you are going through in your unique situation and want to help.”

“The content presented and discussed will come out of the unique concerns of the group,” says Hope Wisneski, LCSW, deputy executive director of The Center. “Participants can expect an environment of support, sharing, networking, education, and resources.”

Calling all gay men

If gay men had a logo, what would it look like? Would it sparkle? Have wings? A tie? Would there be words?

Just a few of the questions you can anticipate answering at one of two upcoming focus groups on Saturday, November 15 at 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m.

A group of men in Denver is preparing for a relatively radical undertaking - celebrating the greatness that is our Denver community and providing opportunities to be more engaged in a movement to connect us and celebrate our strength.

Can we make Denver the kind of place we want it to be? With a more cohesive, more caring, and more connected group of men? Let's find out together.

For locations and more information call Christopher at 720-883-3919 or email Corey at teachercorey@gmail.com.
